The Item Newsletter, Preview Issue, August 12, 2020
Dear Hubbard Woods Families,

Welcome to The Preview Issue of The Item e-newsletter, your primary source of PTO-related information at Hubbard Woods School. The Item includes special events, volunteer opportunities and more.  Make sure it doesn't fall into your Spam folder! Beginning August 23rd, The Item will arrive in your inbox every two weeks. You may also receive email blasts from time to time containing pertinent information. The HW PTO Website is also a great resource. Please bookmark it: http://www.hubbardwoods36pto.org.

We often have parents ask why a particular parent email address is receiving The Item. The district provides us with one parent contact per student. This is based on the online school registration you completed at the district level. If another parent/guardian would like to be added to our mailing list, please send their name and email address to: [email protected].

A very warm welcome to all of the new families! As you will soon see, Hubbard Woods is a very special school. As a parent to a 3rd grader and kindergartener, I can personally attest to the fact that the more you get involved, the more connected you feel to the Hubbard Woods School community. Now more than ever, an amazing way to feel connected to the school is by volunteering your time and talents.

The HW PTO serves the school by running programs and events that enhance the kids' and staff daily experiences. We fund added-value purchases; from extra tech to specialized seating to tools and materials that are on teachers' "wish lists." We also fund the FUN! To make our community stronger, we host BINGO Night, a Family Dance Party and a fantastic Parent & Staff Party. The PTO also runs many beloved school programs and events: World Travelers, Book Fair, Spirit Wear, Yearbook, Aunt Ruth's Garden and more!

The PTO runs on donations and parents volunteering their time; you'll see an opportunity to donate during the back-to-school payments process. Please consider donating. Your support enables us to keep our PTO going strong. Old traditions and new adventures all need parent involvement to make them work; please consider joining one of our remarkable PTO committees! Along the way, you may befriend a few more parents and teachers than you knew before, while becoming a part of the fabric of Hubbard Woods.

We hope you enjoy the remaining days of summer vacation. We look forward to seeing everyone very soon!

Sara Dahlstrom, HW PTO President

VOLUNTEER TO BE A HUBBARD WOODS ROOM PARENT!

What do Room Parents do?

First, room parents support the teacher by helping with various projects throughout the year.
Second, room parents work to encourage positive social relationships amongst families of the class.
Finally, room parents serve as front-line representatives of the PTO in terms of sharing information and encouraging participation in PTO sponsored activities and events.

Being a Room Parent is such a fun way to be involved at Hubbard Woods!

We need you!  Please email Sara Dahlstrom by Friday, August 14 if you are interested, [email protected]

**The number of Room Parents needed for this school year may vary from other years; the PTO will contact you directly upon finalization of classes/teachers.

Directory Information

  • There will be one D36 Directory which will include all three elementary schools, Skokie and Washburne.
  • Your access will be available in mid-September. Watch for updates!
  • Due to parent privacy rules, the PTO (including room parents) cannot share class lists or parent information prior to the directory being made available.
Rah, Rah, Rah for Hubbard Woods!
It has become a fun annual tradition to show our school spirit by displaying colorful Hubbard Woods yard signs in the days leading up to the first day of school. Volunteers will place a HW sign in your front yard the week before school starts.

If you do not wish to have a sign, please contact Back-to-School Committee Chair: Sara Dahlstrom ([email protected]). Volunteers will collect signs from yards after the first week of school.
