Huron Valley State Bank Employees Provided Four Thanksgiving Food Baskets to Local Families
|
|
Employees at Huron Valley State Bank donated items to fill large Thanksgiving baskets with all the fixings for four families in the community. In early November, the bank kicked off its annual food drive collecting canned, non-perishable food items, fresh potatoes, and pumpkin pies at both of its branches and loan center. The Bank topped off each food basket by providing a voucher to purchase a turkey at The Village Butcher.

Fraud Prevention Tips Over the Holidays

The holidays are a time of good will and gift giving, but they are also an active season for fraud and identity theft. One of the most common forms of identity theft is fraudsters stealing debit and credit card information. Unfortunately, many people do not even know they have been defrauded until they are called by their financial institutions, thus these scammers have a lot of time to get away with the act.
Your EMV chip card is extremely difficult to copy and replicate the data on the chip. However, this has led to most of the scamming being done online. Huron Valley State Bank has some measures already put in place to protect your identity. Your debit card has a system in place to alert you of potential fraud. When something suspicious is detected, you will receive an automatic email notification, with the option to reply with "fraud" or "no fraud" through a secured link. One minute after the email, you will receive a text alert, which also has the "fraud" or "no fraud" option. If there is no response received, you will then receive automatic phone calls to confirm or deny fraud. If you confirm fraud, you will be connected to a fraud analyst.

Meet Lori Kirkey
Senior Credit Analyst
|

|
|
Lori joined the banking team in September of this past year. In her role as Senior Credit Analyst she is responsible for analyzing personal and business financial information for commercial loans. She works very closely with the commercial lenders to track the necessary financials from customers and ensures that lines of credit are analyzed on a monthly basis. She plays a major role in monitoring the financial stability of our commercial clients' businesses.
She was recruited to Huron Valley State Bank by Tilly Williams, previously at Citizens Bank (now Huntington Bank) where she worked for 7 years as a Credit Analyst on her team. She has worked for other banks in various capacities from the retail branch operations side, to customer service and commercial lending.
"I love the people and the business culture of Huron Valley State Bank. I was welcomed the first day as one of the team. I drive approximately 55 minutes every day to get here, but wouldn't want to be any place else. The support and guidance received here is unprecedented," said Lori.
Outside of work, she volunteers at a local dog rescue group to raise money for their shelter/adoption center in Columbiaville. Her group volunteers at local sporting/concert events where they work the concession stand and proceeds go directly to the shelter for their rescue efforts. Lori is a breast cancer survivor, and a big advocate for research and source of support for many who have undergone the battle. She is a huge University of Michigan fan and the "Big House" is her favorite place to be besides spending time with her grown daughters and her pitbulls.

Depositing checks from your phone is convenient using the HVSB Mobile App- just take a picture of your check, enter the amount, and submit it. However, sometimes things do not go as planned and your check is rejected. Here are some tips and tricks to prevent your mobile check deposits from getting rejected.
Take A Clear Picture of Your Check
Make sure your check is set down on a flat surface (do not hold the check). Verify there is good lighting and the check is in good condition (no stray papers, or other random items in the photo). Ensure you can see all four corners of the check and the numbers are clear.
Use A Dark Background
Avoid putting your check on a busy background (IE checkered or floral table cloth). A light check on a white table is hard to recognize as well. If it is a light colored check take a photo on a dark background, and vice versa.
Detach Any Stubs
If your paycheck comes attached to a whole sheet of paper with a pay stub, remove that so that nothing other than the check is in the picture.
