Safety in the Community for Individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities 

The Autism Society Inland Empire will be hosting a training and a panel discussion on Safety in the Community for individuals with Intelectual and Developmentall Disabilities.

 

Training: We will be be discussing a number of issues that may happen in the community including Active Shooting incidents.  What to do, where to go, and what this means if you have a child or adult with I/DD.  Chris Grant, founder of PrepIt Forward, has been working for over 20 years in the the field of Emergency and Disaster Preparedness and has a special focus for the Special Needs population.   He is a leader in the local collaborative made up of key agencies in the disability community, which often go unidentified and unserved in regard to Emergency Preparedness. Chris is truly is a Subject Matter Expert in the field of Emergency Planning and Disabilities, Access, and Functional Needs (DAFN) for the I/ DD population.

Panel:  Willl be made up of representatives from law enforcement agencies.  We will not be dicussing the specifics of the shooting in Corona, but will be discussing how to best keep our loved ones safe.

This training and discussion will be appropriate for some teens and adults with I/DD.  We will be discussing active shooter scenarios and other adult subject matter.

Spanish interpreter will be available.
