Greetings!
New personal crises pop up every day. When you face a complex challenge, where can you turn for help? 2-1-1
In fact, in March, our 2-1-1 helpline had a total of 1,501 calls, 30 texts, 10 chats and four emails coming from people in our community who need help, and of all of those, 222 were COVID-related. Overall, there were 606 inquiries looking for help with basic needs, like rental and utility assistance and food, and 57 callers looking for mental health services.
2-1-1 provides expert, caring help in real time. Available 24/7/365, this vital service is a phone number, text-messaging service and website that connects people with resources in their local area to address their needs.
The trained 2-1-1 specialists—the real people answering questions—don’t just “patch people through” to simple solutions; they listen, identify underlying problems, and connect people in need with resources and services in our community that improve their lives.
Some of the agencies that 2-1-1 refers people to are Catholic Charities, the Salvation Army of Alachua, Partnership for Strong Families, ElderCare and St. Francis House, and more.
2-1-1 is for everyone's one-stop shop for help—no matter their income, race, gender or family status. Because all of us face challenges in our lives at some point, and we're here to help.
