CONGREGATIONAL LIFE
SEARCH COMMITTEE UPDATE: MEET THE TEAM!
First, let me acknowledge all eleven people who were open and willing to serve in this vital capacity. You are all heroes! Yet, subscribing to the UUA’s recommended process, the Search Committee is to be comprised of seven individuals. As such, all members present at the Annual Meeting were invited to vote for seven of the eleven candidates. The four candidates who
received the most votes were automatically on the committee, and the Board was then tasked with choosing the remaining three from the same ballot.

How difficult that proved to be! Each and every one of the candidates is qualified in multiple ways. All are beautiful, amazing, trusted and engaged. Every single person has something wonderful and unique to offer, and all would have been great members of the team. Still, the Board needed to make some difficult choices. We focused on balancing skills, interests and church experience deeply relevant to the minister’s position…and still it was hard.

Our appreciation is enormous! All of you, whether on the Search Committee or not, is respected and vital to the continuing health of First Universalist.

With that, let me introduce your First Universalist Search Committee 2019—2020:
  • Anne Turner
  • Ben Tupper
  • Christy Hayashida
  • Dal Holtrop
  • Dorothy McAloney
  • Jamie Brookes
  • Steve Thomas

We wish you much success, and joy, as you embark on this journey, and we know we are in good hands!

Congratulations and thank you,
Joanna Landsman, on behalf of the Board of Trustees.

OUR HALF-PLATE
Each Sunday, we donate half of our collection plate directly to projects and organizations that live and promote our shared values. This week’s half-plate is shared with the  Immigrant Legal Advocacy Project (ILAP)

ILAP provides free and low-cost immigration information and legal assistance, helping our New Mainers keep their families together, gain protection from persecution and domestic violence, attain residency and work authorization, and become proud U.S. citizens. ILAP builds stable families and improved opportunities, allowing Maine's immigrants to contribute to their communities for generations to come. ILAP is proud to uphold our nation's immigrant tradition. Your generosity is greatly appreciated!
