District Shares Black Student Voices and Black Staff Voices Panel Discussions

Last week, the District's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and Learning and Teaching Departments collaborated to share "Black Student Voices: The State of Our Democracy" and "Black Staff Voices: The State of Our Democracy" with our school community. These special presentations were designed to create a space for Black students and staff to share their reactions to the historic events that occurred on January 6 at the Capitol building and to discuss a path forward. We hope that these presentations lead to discussion within your families and our community and provides additional perspectives as we work together toward achieving Educational Equity.

Stop the Spread Reminders from Your School Nurses

We all know that we should wear masks, wash hands frequently and socially distance, but there is another important piece: Be sure to keep your student home when they show any one symptom of illness.

Also, using the District’s Daily Health Assessment/COVID-19 Screener each morning serves as a good reminder for the signs and symptoms of COVID-19. It just takes less than a minute to complete the screening!

Your School Nurses thank our Shaker Heights Schools families for all the hard work you have done to stop the spread of COVID-19. We look forward to having all of our schools open with our students and staff in them. Just remember: in order for our schools to stay open, we need to continue all the hard work we have been doing. Thank you Shaker families, students and staff!

Apply for Free/Reduced-Price Lunch

The percentage of students qualifying for meals is a data point utilized by the federal government to provide the District with certain funds that benefit all students. There is no application deadline; families may apply at any time. One application must be completed for each household each school year. Families can learn more about Free/Reduced-Price lunch and apply online.
