The Arts in Columbia! This special edition of our newsletter focuses on the many artistic endeavors that are happening in Columbia, just in the next two weeks! I clearly recall when we first moved here 31 years ago traveling on weekends to D.C. and Baltimore for cultural events and good restaurants. Now Howard County offers the best of both right here in our backyards. I Iove the arts and know that this was also an area of great interest to my predecessor, Mary Kay Sigaty. I am sure that you will see both of us out and about over the next two weeks attending as many events as we can fit into our schedules. So take advantage of staying in town and look below at all the fun things there are to do right here in Columbia!

has hosted the Columbia Festival of the Arts for 31 years. The annual Festival begins with June’s free 3-day
LakeFest
at Lake Kittamaqundi and is followed by outstanding ticketed events at Howard Community College and at other venues in Howard County.
Inner Arbor Trust
operates 22 acres of Merriweather Park at Symphony Woods, including the Chrysalis, and is developing all 51 acres of the park as an arts and culture park. Events include the free Community Concert Series and Chrysalis Kids family series.

has fostered the arts, artists and arts organizations and connected people to the arts. Columbia Association
(CA) is a non-profit membership organization that owns and operates multiple recreation and community facilities, including the Downtown Columbia Lakefront. CA also hosts the
Columbia Lakefront Summer Festival
, which features live music, family movies, and dancing under the People Tree.
Toby’s Dinner Theatre
in Downtown Columbia offers 8 shows weekly of award-winning Broadway and original musicals with buffet-style dinners. Now in its 40th season, it has received over 100 Helen Hayes Award nominations.
Jim Rouse Theatre
at Wilde Lake High School is a 747-seat theatre with 12,500 sq. ft of performance space. It is rented to community groups on a space-available basis.
The Soundry
is the 200 seat (300 standing) music venue facing Lake Kittamaqundi in Downtown Columbia. The Soundry presents bands and performers doing everything from ABBA covers to zydeco.
