COMMUNITY LEADERS PANEL TOMORROW NIGHT

As the Dream Team continues working with the Center for Congregational Health, we have invited several Raleigh community leaders to join us for a panel discussion on the needs of downtown. Tomorrow night, September 22, we'll kick off this discussion at 6:15pm in the Fellowship Hall. Join us as we hear from these voices that are pivotal to the flourishing of our community, and listen as they respond to how our church might meet the needs of our growing downtown community.

If you are not able to join us in person, we hope you can attend virtually via Zoom with this link! To view the speaker throughout the presentation, click the three dots on the right portion of the screen and choose "pin this video." If you would prefer to call in, use 301-715-8592, Meeting ID: 898 5713 6473, Passcode: 390190.

ADULT CENTERPOINT IN-PERSON & ZOOM, AS OF SEPTEMBER 1

The Adult Ministries Council has been working on a set of programs for this fall with the theme Celebrating Our Heritage with a View to the Future. Dinner will continue to be from 5-6pm, tailgating style, in the parking lot. If it rains, your family may come inside the building and we'll all spread out between the Fellowship Hall, Lewis lobby, and 301/302.

On September 8, we returned to requiring reservations for Wednesday night dinners. You may reserve your spot at this link to the page on the church website or by calling the church office. Let's all try to park along the perimeter of the parking lot, so we can leave our middle spaces for chairs/communal tailgating!

MENU
September 22 • Chicken pot pie and fried apples
September 29 • Baked spaghetti with vegetable medley

Centerpoint will meet each week from 6:15-7:15pm in the fellowship hall.
September 22 - The Dream Team will facilitate a conversation with various community leaders on the needs and hopes of our downtown neighborhood. See the article above for our forum participants.
September 29 - Church Conference (in person and via Zoom)
October 6 - Glenn Jonas, author of Nurturing the Vision: First Baptist Church, Raleigh 1812-2012 will revisit some of the highlights of our history.
October 13 - (tentative) Pastor Emeritus Dan Day will talk about his book, Finding the Gospel: A Pastor’s Disappointment and Discovery, released last fall. Recounting his disappointment with his inherited understanding of the gospel as centered only on the evangelical Plan of Salvation, he explains his discovery of what he terms a "bigger gospel" centered on Jesus’ teaching concerning the Kingdom or Reign of God. The last section of the book is given to some of the changes this new perspective has meant for his thoughts about other topics. Time permitting, Dan may also get into the sequel book, Lively Hope: The Taste of God’s Tomorrow, to be released this fall.
• October 20 - Steve Pressley will talk about his new biography of former FBC pastor Randall Lolley, entitled Randall Lolley: Thanks for the Memories.
October 27 - Church Conference

JOIN US VIA ZOOM

Join us for a live broadcast of the Centerpoint adult program, every Wednesday night via Zoom with this link! To view the speaker throughout the presentation, click the three dots on the right portion of the screen and choose "pin this video." If you would prefer to call in, use 301-715-8592, Meeting ID: 898 5713 6473, Passcode: 390190. We hope this is a helpful way to keep us all connected as we journey forward with Wednesday night programming!
RANDALL LOLLEY BIOGRAPHY AVAILABLE

By now, many of you know that Steve Pressley has written a biography of our beloved former pastor and Baptist icon Randall Lolley, and that Steve will be presenting a program on the book at our church Wednesday night, October 20, at 6:15pm. The added good news is that we now have copies of the book available in the church office for $24 (a discount off of the cover price of $30). If you would like a copy of Randall Lolley: Thanks for the Memories, you may purchase one in the office as long as they last (please note “Lolley Biography” on any checks made out to the church). Steve will sign copies when he is with us. We look forward to honoring this beloved saint of our faith, along with his co-laborer Lou!
SEGREGATED BY DESIGN STUDY

On Sunday, October 17, at 3pm our church will join with the Habitat Downtown Faith Coalition in a "Segregated by Design" study on Zoom. This is a short documentary that examines the often forgotten history of our local, state, and federal governments, and how they segregated cities across our nation through law. We'll watch the film together and then move into smaller Zoom rooms to discuss. We hope you'll make plans to join this important conversation with our downtown sister congregations. To sign-up, please email Leah.
TOY JOY WISH LISTS

Thank you to everyone who came with Toy Joy donations for our first drop-off on Saturday! We will have one more before the big event, so be looking for that date soon. For those of you who would like to shop online and have items sent directly to the church, we have linked our Amazon & Walmart wish lists below. Please make sure all items are sent to the church by November 1 and put "FBC Toy Joy" on the delivery address (99 N Salisbury Street). We appreciate your continued support of this ministry!

VANCO MOBILE FAITH APP

The Give+ Mobile app we use for smartphone electronic giving is being replaced by the VANCO Mobile Faith app. After September 30 the Give+ Mobile app will no longer work. You may download and begin using the new app immediately. If you have registered an account for the old Give+ app, that account has been transferred to the new app. Go to Google Play or the Apple Store to download the new app. This change does not affect the Give+ Online option on our website. Visit this link for instructions on how to download.
HELEN WRIGHT
CENTER MEALS

We appreciate all of our volunteers who have generously delivered dinner from And Also With 'Cue to the Helen Wright Center over the past year! We have two more opportunities in 2021 to deliver meals, in November and December to finish up the year. This is a simple, no-contact delivery that involves going to pick up the prepared AAWC meals from our church and delivering them to the Helen Wright Center around dinner time. Our final dates for the year are Tuesday, November 9, and Thursday, December 2. If you are available for either of those dates, please email Leah.
SUPPORTING CROP WALK

For years, FBC has participated in the local CROP Hunger Walk. Funds raised support these local agencies: Catholic Parish Outreach Dorcas Ministries, Food Bank of Central and Eastern NC, North Raleigh Ministries, and Urban Ministries of Wake County. In addition, global efforts are supported through the work of the Church World Service, which has a huge refugee ministry and works locally with the Welcome House. There has ever been a greater need as each of these agencies is stretched beyond belief to address hunger insecurity during this pandemic.

Greater Triangle Area CROP Hunger Walk has been planning a live walk from Pullen Park and back; however, Wayne Hager, FBC staff member and co-coordinator of the walk shares that a live mass walk is increasingly unlikely due to the onset of the Delta variant.  While the opportunity to walk together is a wonderful part of the walk each year, the most important part remains the same - the funds raised to address hunger locally and globally.

FBC members are still encouraged to register for the walk and join our FBC team even if your walk turns out to be around your neighborhood or with small groups from FBC on the walk day, Sunday, October 31. Joining the FBC CROP Team is important to show the commitment FBC has to address hunger locally and globally.   You may register for CROP and join our team here.

Registering makes it easier for our team leaders to contact you with supportive emails and to distribute information you may share to increase your fundraising for CROP. We also can contact you with our alternative plans to walk together in safety. One very effective fundraising tool is to post a Facebook fundraiser with just a few clicks on your personal page (established when you register).  Facebook charges CROP no fees on the money raised through the Facebook platform.

Our children’s ministry and youth ministry have both committed to supporting CROP this year. Both will be using different strategies to participate in a walk and raise funds. The children and youth have both established Facebook fundraisers. Funds raised by each group are counted toward the $3,000 goal for FBC.

Click here for the children’s fundraiser and here for the youth fundraiser. If you wish to contribute to the team as a whole, click here.

Please consider sharing these fundraisers on your own Facebook page by copying and pasting the URL in a post on your page. Donations are accepted through all of the FBC electronic platforms and here. Checks should be made out to CROP Hunger Walk/CWS and given to our financial office and will be delivered to CROP with the checks our team “walkers” receive in support. Thanks for your support of CROP Hunger Walk this year.
SEPTEMBER MISSION PROJECT

For the month of September, we'll be collecting school supplies for Southeast Raleigh Elementary, which is located about three miles from the church. Please click on this Sign-Up Genius link that will give you a list of the needed supplies and how many of each are requested. We're all happy that children are able to have in-person learning this year and pray that they all stay healthy and have a wonderful year! Your donations may be placed in the marked drawer in the Lewis Building cabinet until the end of September. For questions, please email Anne Cooke.
RISE AGAINST HUNGER MEAL PACKING

It's that time of year again! We are now seeking volunteers for our annual meal- packing event with Rise Against Hunger on Sunday, October 10, at the Rise warehouse location at 3200 Wellington Court, Suite 111 (near Gresham’s Lake) from 1-3pm. We're asking that everyone wear a mask so that we can do this as safely as possible. Work stations will be set up based on the relationship of our volunteers. Some will work well for family units and others are designed for non-related individuals. There is room for everyone!

To sign up, please go to FBC's Rise Against Hunger website and register. On this site, you can also read more details about safety precautions.

We're looking forward to this opportunity to be in the same room with some of our church family as we do our part to stop world hunger. For questions or more information, please email Nancy Phillips.
