Anti-Racism = Safer Children, Stronger Families

Over the past several months, multiple acts of racism have gained national attention. These include Ahmaud Arbery who was killed while jogging in his neighborhood in New Brunswick, GA;  Breonna Taylor who was killed while she slept in her home in Louisville, KY; Chris Cooper who was falsely accused of assault while bird watching in Central Park, NY; and most recently the horrific killing of George Floyd by police officers in Minneapolis, MN. These events in the midst of the COVD-19 pandemic have led to the understandable manifestations of frustration, anger and fear playing out in our communities.

Pendleton Place is deeply disturbed by these events and acknowledges that they highlight the discrimination African Americans face each day from systemic racial injustice. Pendleton Place also understands that for our African American staff, program participants and residents, these events may bring back the pain of their own personal experiences with racism, and we commit ourselves to their well-being.

In our support for positive change, Pendleton Place encourages all who can to stand with peaceful protestors and the Black Lives Matter movement in Greenville and around the country. We encourage understanding through listening, learning through discovery and unity, and collaborative work to break the cycle of systemic racial injustice. Most importantly, Pendleton Place commits to leveraging its positions of influence to attack the roots of racism and build more equitable and just policies for children, youth, and families.

Pendleton Place COVID-19 Update

On June 1st, Pendleton Place implemented our COVID-19 Long-Term Workplace Plan, which acknowledges that the public health crisis remains a pressing concern and also allows us to slowly resume full operations with heavy precautions. Administrative staff will continue to work from home or on staggered schedules, and all staff and visitors will wear masks and maintain social distancing while moving about our campus. Volunteers will also be permitted back in our buildings but in limited roles and numbers. Safety for our residents, program participants, staff, visitors, and volunteers remains a priority and we appreciate your continued support as we slowly implement changes to our work environment.

We would like to officially announce the cancellation of our 2020 Annual Benefit due to the COVID-19 pandemic. After an initial attempt to reschedule the event, we made the difficult decision to forego a benefit this year as we all adjust to the safety demands of the pandemic. Ticket holders and sponsors should have received an email regarding refund and donation options and can contact [email protected] with any questions.  While we are disappointed that the event could not be rescheduled as initially planned, we are excited to share that we have set a date for 2021!  Mark your calendar for:

 Friday, March 26, 2021,  7 p.m.  - 11 p.m.

Many other details will remain the same - the event will still be at Zen and catered by Chef 360 catering.  We are grateful to these partners for their flexibility in accommodating these schedule changes and highly recommend their services!

With the loss of our Annual Benefit and other event-base opportunities, our donations are extremely low for this busy time of year. Will you consider giving a gift today to help us make up for these event cancellations?

Youth Resource Center

Josh Crocker, Youth Resource Center Director, recently had the opportunity to partner with Pride Link on a webinar to discuss resources for youth homelessness.  If you missed it you can watch it HERE. The YRC has seen a dramatic increase in need for services during the COVID crisis making the support we provide for homeless youth even more critical.

We would also like to give a special shout our to our program partner, Greater Greenville Mental Health who dropped off care packages filled with non-perishable food, dental hygiene products, deodorant, socks, underwear, and more!  We are grateful for your support!

Make a Donation

We have received several generous donations of masks but are in need of more!  If you are a mask maker, or know someone who is, we would appreciate your support!
