Notes from Pastor AJ

Dear Beluvs ...

This week on Monday, I had the distinct honor of standing in witness with several members of our PrairieUU community at the Colorado State Capitol in solidarity with our Black American siblings in calling for justice and equality. I am forever grateful to have this honor and I am thankful for the members of our community that are working toward justice in a variety of ways both here at PrairieUU and in the larger community.

I recognize that this past week has brought forth many feelings of pain, and anxiety for many of us. I would like to remind you that I am available to each of you for pastoral, spiritual, and emotional care. As you know, I will be off for most of the summer. The goal was that I would complete my ¾ time ministerial contract between September and May and then have the time off for the summer to complete a hospital chaplaincy program. Given all that has happened in the world these last few months, I will not be able to complete a chaplaincy program but I will be spending the summer working on other educational processes as part of my UU ministers fellowshiping program.

I want to let you know that during this time I may be less present at meetings and Sunday mornings but I will continue to be available as always for pastoral care, conversations, and connections. I will be continuing our weekday morning meditations on Facebook and Youtube and I hope you join me there. I am available to chat, catch up etc. Please continue to schedule appointments, and calls with me. You can schedule a time via my Google Calendar or call/text me at 720-549-0531.

In Service,

From the Committee on Shared Ministry …

The Committee on Shared Ministry (COSM) would like to invite you to take a bit of PrairieUU home with you for your Sunday morning worship! If you are interested in having a set of hymnals (gray and teal) and a chalice delivered to you, please email Home@PrairieUU.org. We'll arrange to have these items disinfected and dropped at your home with touchless delivery! It's one more way that we can all stay connected, keep our chalice burning, and help you sing along on Sunday mornings! Please contact COSM co-chairs Marjorie B or Michael M or email the COSM with any questions or comments.

In Faith,

COSM Co-chairs
From the Board ...

The Prairie Board of Trustees will meet on Google Meet   Wednesday June 10.  Among the items on the agenda are approval of a budget for the next fiscal year. The Board also plans to adopt a policy which defines a number of categories by which individuals can be associated with Prairie, besides Membership.  The Board will also discuss the extremely important Congregational Meeting, scheduled for June 14.

The Spring Congregational Meeting will be held on Google Meet after the service on Sunday, June 14.  Important items on the Agenda include a number of changes to the Prairie By-Laws, election of Members to serve on the Congregational Committees, and approval of a Budget for the next fiscal year.
Please plan to join us for this most important meeting.  Having the meeting on-line for the first time has created a number of challenges, which we will manage to work through.

In Covenant,

Clark H , President

The LifeSpan team is excited to kick off summer.  We will be hosting family friendly gatherings the first Sundays in June, July, and August immediately following Fellowship.

June 7th:  How do you show off Summer?

Next Sunday, June 7, we will have Learning  Hour to talk about and watch a combined film based upon your input about your favorite ways to get into summer.  You can share your thoughts about your favorite ways to get INTO summer up to June 4th via Flipgrid.

PUUC Mailing Address
PrairieUU should receive all mail at the PO box in Parker:

PO Box 1684
Parker, CO 80134

The old mailbox on South University will be closed out in June. Since the old box is in a package store, not a post office, mail sent thereafter June will not be forwarded. This change is most important for those members who have checks for pledges sent to the old mailbox; checks for pledges should be sent to the new PO box as soon as possible.

Our adult facilitators are Janet Stevens , Melissa Bishop , Michael Mead s , and Joe Francis .

High School Summer Camp Canceled

It is with great sadness that the staff has decided to cancel summer camp in 2020.  It would be impossible to do social distancing.   In the summer of 2021 we plan to have camp again.  Activities include crafts, games, hot tubs, bowling, talent show, snacks, food prep with Coni, awards, three things about me, lunches, the redemption receptacle, dinners, closing circle complete with tears, water bottles, pool, passing the torch ceremony in the woods, last night party, swimming, picture frames, games on lawn, age appropriate programs, video scavenger hunt, tie dyed shirts, two truths and a lie, questions of the other gender, chapel, camp slideshow, hikes, graduating senior slideshow, hugs, gender bonding in evening, affirmation circle, time on inspiration rock, camp photo, awarding of camp names, skits, and some sleeping. May 31 Service Sunday Update

The Justice League would like to send a huge thanks to everyone who made our spontaneous Service Saturday a success! More than 20 people participated by collecting food for our local pantries and planting gardens at Bridge House and our own Prairie garden. Additionally, many thanks to the folks who called other Prairie folks and otherwise rallied the troops in their neighborhood to collect groceries to feed our community! And finally, thank you to the many generous donations made to our local food banks. Here’s a peek of our safe and socially distant gardening and food drive efforts! Y’all rock!
