Dear Neighbor,
More Vaccines on the Way!

18,000 more vaccines are on their way! Both the Alamodome site and WellMed will be taking appointments according to the following schedules:

ALAMODOME -- 9,000 Doses available
The City of San Antonio will make appointments available on a rolling basis.
Today’s appointments will be for approximately 2,000 slots on Monday; tomorrow, Saturday, the City will make available 2,000 slots for Tuesday, and so on.

The registration system will continue to reopen as appointments become available due to cancellations.

Appointments are made by visiting covid19.sanantonio.gov/vaccine or by calling 311.

WELLMED - 9,000 Doses available
WellMed is accepting registrations for the Cisneros Senior Center and Lopez Senior Center locations beginning 8 a.m. tomorrow.

Appointments are made by phone only at 1-833-968-1745.

EXPECT TO CALL MANY TIMES
Keep in mind that approximately one million people in Bexar County are eligible for the vaccine right now, yet, only a few thousand doses are available at a time. That means hundreds of thousands of people calling in at the same time for very few doses. Please expect the online appointments to go quickly. Please expect to call multiple times before getting through by phone. While not ideal, it is our current system. Please remain calm and patient. We expect to continue receiving doses.

DO NOT MAKE MULTIPLE APPOINTMENTS
We have experienced a number of duplicates, no-shows and cancellations by people making multiple appointments at the same or different locations. This practice hinders the operation, keeps others who need the vaccine from getting it, and may potentially result in wasted vaccine doses.

I know our neighbors are anxious to get vaccinated and reclaim the sense of security that COVID took away from us. Please know that it will only get easier to get a vaccine in the coming months. As more vaccine arrives, we will be able to add more vaccine sites and even mobile vaccination units. We will get there. We're just not there yet!
District 7 Blood Drive This Week

Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, more than 60% of blood drives in South Texas have been canceled. As a result, trauma care centers and hospitals don’t have the blood they need to treat patients.

That's why my team and I worked with the South Texas Blood & Tissue Center to host a blood drive competition between City Council Districts. Each office will host a blood drive. Whoever gets the most blood donors wins! So roll up your sleeves because the District 7's Blood Drive is this week!

Thursday, January 21, at Crossroads Baptist Church from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Will you help us win the challenge? Let's be District 7 Proud! Everyone donating will receive a $10 gift card to Wal-Mart.

It's time we come together, roll up our sleeves, and make the Blood & Tissue Center whole. Please share this opportunity with your friends and family!
Street Racing in Our Community

Residents have contacted my office concerned about street racing in our community. We know that this dangerous and deadly activity is occurring near residential areas and along on major roadways in our District like Culebra Rd. and Bandera Rd. We also saw a gathering of several hundred vehicles at Ingram Park Mall and a recent eight-vehicle pileup on Loop 410 near Callaghan Road in late December.

Street racing is reckless and it can be deadly. I want to thank the police department for continuing to work on this issue.

I have submitted a request to discuss this issue at the appropriate City Council's Public Safety Committee. You can read the memo here.
Yours in public service,
