On the first day of each session and throughout the summer, CYJ Midwest lives by five guiding principles to create a safe, inclusive environment where campers and staff can learn and grow together. They include:

Treat others the way you want to be treated.
Respect other people’s differences.
Help people who are in need and ask for help if you need it.
Use kind words when you speak to people or about them.
Be a role model for others.

CYJ works to teach our community to live by these guiding principles not just in camp, but in their lives outside of camp. We are committed to continue educating our campers and staff through these principles. We are committed to creating a safe space for our community to discuss, brainstorm and take action individually and as a larger group. We are committed to help our campers and staff build on the notion that everyone can make a difference in this world.

The past two weeks have been extremely difficult, as throughout American society individuals and communities have been speaking out and acting in protest against the scourges of racism, bias and discrimination. Young Judaea joined the many youth groups and activist movements in taking a stand, and we encourage you to read the statement below circulated by the elected peer leadership board ( National Mazkirut ) of Young Judaea.

CYJ's community is built on the idea that one small action can change the world. So, we are asking you, "What action are you taking to stop hate?" Share a picture, video, note or creation in the comments below or email to info@cyjmid.org with the subject "Our Family's Action". We will be compiling these actions to share with our larger family and world.
