TODAY IS DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY
|
|
The essence of being a Christian is meditation, prayer, and good works. These acts are also at the heart of Divine Mercy Sunday. Jesus showed us the path we are to follow to Our Heavenly Father in His every word, deed, and action.
In observing The Feast of Divine Mercy we should:
- Celebrate the Feast of Divine Mercy Sunday
- Sincerely repent of all our sins with complete trust in Jesus
- Make an Act of Contrition prior to the feast day
- Make a Spiritual Communion on the feast day
- Venerate the Image of the Divine Mercy
To ensure that the faithful would observe this special day with intense devotion, Pope John Paul II established that Mercy Sunday be enriched by a PLENARY INDULGENCE under the usual conditions. Find more info and prayers at
TheDivineMercy.org
The Divine Mercy Chaplet will be prayed after the 9:30am Mass.

CHURCH RESTORATION & RENEWAL
|
|
Beginning Monday, April 20,
all Daily and Sunday Masses will Livestream from O'Donnell Hall
|
|
Our beautiful church was built by the sacrifice of our parishioners in 1956. It has been lovingly maintained by countless Altar Society members, Liturgical Environment ministers, parishioners and staff over the decades. But, like any 65 year old home, especially one that hosts thousands of guests each week, the church’s infrastructure -- its structural, electrical, mechanical, plumbing and technological skin and bones -- is aging. We have tried diligently to keep up with the repairs and necessary improvements around the church, but we have much more to do.
Our Called to Renew Campaign is meant to help cover the costs of the renewal of the church. When the Campaign was suspended because of the current Covid-19 crisis, we had received pledges of over $4 million from some of our most wonderfully generous parishioners—about half of our $8 million goal.
With the required closure of the church and this seed money, we decided to go ahead with the work earlier than we had planned. The pews, chandeliers, roof, floors, doors, walls, carpets, restrooms, A/V systems and the exterior stairs and hardscape will all be restored and renewed.
By starting this work now, we hope to be ready to welcome all of you back to our beautiful church as soon as possible.
Thank you for all of your generosity and support through these challenging times. Stay healthy as we continue to support one another, in faith and ministry.
Happy Easter and God bless,
Bob Hodges

STEWARDSHIP -
Moving Us Closer to God
|
|
Today, many of us will focus on the Gospel story of Thomas. This is probably because his 30 seconds of fame is a familiar story of doubt. Fortunately, the Gospel reading is shared with other readings this weekend that give us visions of unity and resolute faith.
Our first reading from the Acts of the Apostles describes the way life was for the first Christians.
“They devoted themselves to the teaching of the apostles and to the communal life, to the breaking of the bread and to the prayers.”
and
“They ate their meals with exultation and sincerity of heart, praising God and enjoying favor with all the people.”
This is a snapshot of the first community of Christian stewards living out their daily life; embracing prayer, formation, hospitality and mutual service. In our current environment our Christian faith still encourages us to do the same, with some social distancing.
In the second reading, St. Peter summarizes an Easter Season attitude eloquently. Our daily lives should be a reflection of this attitude:
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who in his great mercy gave us a new birth to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is… kept in heaven for you.”
St. Peter acknowledges that life can be difficult however, saying that
“In this you rejoice, although now for a little while you may have to suffer through various trials.”
Lent and Easter are behind us, but it is not the time to let up in the practice of our faith. Certainly, it is challenging to keep the Easter spirit when we may be faced with job stress, family crisis, health threats, and more, and we may become cynical like the Apostle Thomas. But he was forgiven and saved by an encounter with our merciful Savior. When we are tempted to give in to doubts of faith for whatever reason, all we need to do is seek the Lord in prayer and, just as He did for Thomas, our Lord will mercifully restore our Easter vision and fill us with His joy and peace.

STEPHEN MINISTRY - Confidential Care and Support
|
|
Do your problems lock you in a place of fear?
In today’s gospel, the disciples are locked in the upper room, full of fear about what might happen to them. Problems sometimes seem so big they paralyze us with fear so we can’t work through them. It can happen to anyone. Wouldn’t it be helpful to have someone to talk to and maybe to pray with during that time? A Stephen Minister can be your confidential companion to help you stand up and deal with the difficult times of life. We’re here to support you with your unique needs.
Leave a message on our Stephen Ministry confidential phone line at 310-545-8244.
Deacon Dick and Patti Williams will contact you to explore whether a Stephen Minister may be a good fit for you!
