From the President's Desk
You’ve probably heard Bob Marley’s classic song, “Three Little Birds.” To me, it is the musical equivalent of watching the sun rise over Viking Mountain in the midst of a crisis. The inspirational lyrics of the song include, “Singing’ don’t worry ’bout a thing / ‘Cause every little thing gonna be alright”.
The sun rising over the mountains every morning is a sign that it is a new day and every little thing is going to be alright. Greene County is starting to see signs that things are “gonna be alright’. Last week Greene County showed no active cases of COVID-19, and today there are only two.
This news does not mean that ALL things are “alright’. As Gov. Lee continues to open our great state back up for business and increase our ability to return to our pre-COVID lives, we need to continue following guidelines and working to improve our overall safety for our community.
As I mentioned in my previous letter, the team at the Greene County Partnership was not going to take our foot off of the gas. In fact, we have pressed harder. During the last month, we launched our Virtual Job Exchange, we were tenacious (and counitue to be) in contacting our state and regional economic partners, rescheduled events, organized a fall festival, launched multiple programs to promote our local businesses, celebrated our Seniors with our supersized lawn display, and lastly graduated our Youth Leadership both virtually and with a drive through celebration.
The work of our local banks to process the SBA loans, the tireless efforts of our educators, volunteers, and lastly our healthcare providers to assist all those in need has been amazing. It is the generous giving and flexibility of organizations to assist those in need that reiterates what I already knew; Greene Countians will rise to the challenge.
The team at GCP is not letting up, nor can our community. If we continue to do our part, “every little thing gonna be alright.”

Sundown on Depot
The fifth annual Sundown on Depot will return to historic downtown Greeneville on August 22 with a new location, Main Street.
Each year Sundown on Depot is traditionally held in conjunction with the Greeneville Iris Festival. With the cancelation of the 2020 Iris Festival, due to COVID-19, came the opportunity for an August Sundown on Depot show date for 2020. Cars, trucks and bikes of all makes and models are invited to cruise in to downtown, fill Main Street, and enjoy the day. Food trucks and concession vendors will be offering their fare. Hours of Sundown are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Capitol Theatre, located on Main Street, will offer a 3 p.m., showing of the classic movie “California Kid”.
New to the show will be the awarding of Cool Pick and Specialty Awards. These awards are supplied by Bachman Bernard, Gateway Ford, Black Label Coatings, Harrison’s Rod & Custom, United By Trucks, and Brabb Gregg. The first 200 registered participants will receive a dash plaque. There will also be door prizes and cash prizes. Registration is $10 per vehicle. Awards ceremony will be held in the Capitol Theatre at 5 p.m.

They are in and hot off the press. The 2020-2021 Greeneville/Greene County visitor guides and locator maps are now in stock! Gracefully featuring our very own Andrew Johnson standing presidentially on the front cover, the guides are 4x9 and are packaged in quantities of 300. “Batter Up” and “Break Point”… what do those terms have in common? The answer is, these are the two national championships that the Sports Council of the Tourism Department has been awarded by the National Junior College Athletic Association! The first championship, the NJCAA Division III World Series, is familiar to our community. Beginning in 2017, the Sports Council hosted three world series back to back at Pioneer Park on the campus of Tusculum University. Unfortunately, the 2020 event was cancelled due to Covid-19. The World Series will again take place at Pioneer Park for the years of 2021-2023 with an annual economic impact of $2.4M. The Men’s Division III Tennis championships will be held 2021-2022 at the Greene County Tennis Center and the Roger M. Nichols Complex on the campus of Tusculum University. This event will bring in an approximate $315,000 economic impact each of the two years.
