As we move through the fourth quarter at Providence, w e are committed to keeping you updated on the progress your generosity has made possible.

  • READING FOR CHANGE 
    -  
    Providence students have completed a second year of the Reading for Change open book challenge. Find out more here.  In the last two years combined, our sponsors have raised over $6,500 for this worthy cause. Past and present sponsors include AgChoice Farm Credit, Cumberland Valley Tree Service, Life Guide Financial Services, Shippensburg Public Library, McDonalds, and F&M Trust. Thank you to friends and families of students who have given generously to encourage our readers. In the past two years our students have read over 50,000 pages!
  • END OF YEAR $15,000 GIVING CHALLENGE - We are asking our Friends of Providence to prayerfully consider an end-of-year gift to help make a difference in the lives of our most vulnerable students. Without tuition assistance, many of our students would be unable to attend. We have currently raised about $35,000 with a goal of $50,000. Please pray about how you can help us raise the final $15,000 before June 30th. Please donate here.
  • VOLUNTEER HELP NEEDED  - Thank you to the many volunteers that support our school. Perhaps you could lend your expertise to the school. Call us at (717) 298-8090 to discuss how you could change lives with your available time and talent.
  • 2019 ECFA ACCREDITATION RENEWED - The Evangelical Council of Financial Accountability (ECFA) has renewed our school's accreditation for financial operations. This is a significant milestone for the school, assuring its integrity in all aspects of financial policies and accounting. 
  • 2019 GUIDESTAR PLATINUM SEAL - PCA has been awarded the Guidestar Platinum Seal for integrity and transparency in governance and financial operations. This is the highest seal awarded by Guidestar, placing PCA in the top 99.5 percentile of all charities screened by Guidestar. 
     
  • PROVIDENCE 360 - 
    Our most recent events in this unique curricular approach include:
    • March 6 - WDVM - Hagerstown - K-3 students visited this news station
    • Thursday Afternoons - Every other Thursday at Cumberland Valley School of Music for keyboarding lessons for interested 5th to 7th students.
    • March 28 - Coyle Free Library, Old Jail, and John Brown's House
    • April 5 - YMCA Gym & Swim
    • April 10 - Conococheague Institute - Historical Studies led by Dr. Shannon
    • April 16 - Chamberburg Heritage Center, Capital Theater, and downtown historical tour
These were all wonderful opportunities for learning beyond the building.


  FRIENDS OF PROVIDENCE CAMPAIGN

The gifts of God's people for God's work at Providence are crucial, particularly in these last few giving months of the 2018-19 school year. HISTORICAL SPOTLIGHT

Beginning in the final week in November of 1900 and lasting until mid-February of 1901, an outbreak of seventy-five (75) cases of scarlet fever overwhelmed the Pennsylvania Soldiers' Orphans Industrial School. Since its founding on June 1, 1895, the former Alexander Stewart farmhouse had provided staff housing and served as the school hospital. The school was founded to care for and educate orphans of fallen soldiers of the Civil War. With forty-eight (48) quarantined students in early 1901, the need for a larger hospital was urgent. The new hospital pictured above contained a boys' and girls' wing on the first floor, with a central treatment room between the wings. The second floor cupola contained the nurse quarters. The hospital served the school for sixty years.
