Message from the Superintendent
Dear Berryessa Parents, Staff and Community,

Happy spring break to all!

We hope you are sleeping in, relaxing and enjoying this special time with family and friends. I wanted to take a moment to thank all of our BUSD team members for their hard work throughout this school year. There is much to celebrate, including the phenomenal support and partnership from our parents and community.

Let’s take this time to recharge our batteries and to prepare ourselves for a very productive and exciting race to the end of the school year.
We also encourage parents to take some time to explore summer programs and activities available in our schools and community. The summer can be a perfect time to learn new skills, catch up, and/or to discover new interests.

On behalf of the BUSD Board of Trustees, we wish everyone a very enjoyable and safe spring break!

With great BUSD pride,

Dr. Roxane Fuentes
Thank you, Berryessa Education Foundation!
On March 23, 2019, the Berryessa Education Foundation (BEF) held its annual Make a Difference raffle. This year they reached a new high, raising over $36,000! We would like to thank all of you who supported this important fundraiser.

Through the dollars raised, BEF is able to provide assistance to teachers to explore new ideas and strategies that use technology or other instructional materials that will stimulate students to learn in new ways and stimulate their creativity and success in school. To date, over 13,000 students have benefited from grants made by BEF.
Grants have funded the creative ideas of over 140 teachers representing all of the schools in the district to find new ways to make a difference to over 7,200 of the district's students.

Once again, our deepest gratitude to our parents, staff, teachers, and community supporters for your tremendous generosity!
Berryessa Annual Art Festival
Saturday, May 11, 2019, 10am - 5pm
It is our pleasure to invite you to the 42nd Berryessa Annual Art Festival, presented by the Berryessa Business Association. This free, fun, family event features delicious foods, local performances, beautiful art, engaging activities for children, and a wide array of booths for you to visit.

We hope you can attend this special event that raises money for our Berryessa Union School District schools. Over $16,000 in teacher grants were awarded this past school year which supported field trips, STEM materials, music equipment, and so much more!

The festival is located at the Berryessa Community Center located at 3050 Berryessa Road in San Jose.
Building the Pathway to Biliteracy
BUSD is proud to join the Santa Clara County Office of Education’s Seal of Biliteracy Initiative as we work to build leading dual immersion programs that prepare our students for global opportunities. This initiative provides a system of benchmarks towards biliteracy for students in preschool through high school.

The community is also taking notice of our successful Dual Immersion Mandarin program, as our team participated in a special SCCOE event on April 24, 2019 showcasing our early program successes.

As part of our commitment to promoting biliteracy, we are also
excited to share that the BUSD Board of Trustees recently passed an English Learners Roadmap resolution . This roadmap for English learners provides a clear vision for what our students are to learn every step of the way.

A huge thanks to all of our teachers and staff who work so hard to ensure that all of our students are gaining the skills and knowledge to be prepared for high school, college and beyond. This was highlighted at our recent Reclassification Celebration where 458 English Learners were recognized for their reclassification.
Vinci Park Earns Recognition from
Innovate Public Schools
Each year, Innovate Public Schools celebrates the Bay Area public schools achieving excellent results for Latino and African American students. This nonprofit organization, dedicated to creating world-class public schools, issues an annual report highlighting schools that are truly closing the achievement gap for Latino and African American students.

Vinci Park Elementary School is among these leading schools featured in their most recent report, and will be recognized on April 27,2019 for their success in closing the achievement gap in math for our Latino students. Join us in celebrating this phenomenal achievement!
