Virtual cover crop field day. ISU Extension and Iowa Learning Farm will host a virtual field day on Thursday April 16 at 1:00 PM.  Mark Licht and Alison Robertson will discuss recent research on seeding rates, corn management following cover crops and crop disease concerns. Alfalfa and cereal rye for forage. The recent cold weather and snow is not expected to adversely affect established alfalfa.
 
Fall seeded cereal rye intended for spring forage production that is in the tillering stage should not be adversely affected by recent cold temperatures. Grain production of winter wheat and rye could be adversely affected if they are in the jointing stage.

Soil temperatures. This site has info regarding current soil temperatures on a county by county basis.
 
Pesticide applicator testing update. In-person testing dates and locations are currently unavailable until further notice.
 
Persons who need to certify can obtain a private certification through online testing . You will be asked to register, and then you will receive a link to access the test.
 
Commercial application businesses that need additional applicators can have potential applicators obtain their private certification. The business can then hire that recently certified private applicator as a commercial applicator but will have to provide supervision during this State Proclamation time period.
