As we move closer to the final month of the school year,
we would like to extend a thank you to all parents who have provided CCDS with their time and expertise. We appreciate all the ways in which you are able to support student learning. Our community is stronger because of each of you!
Student conferences are right around the corner. Please take some time to read about our new approach to Spring conferences below. Students will be taking a lead role in facilitating the meeting and share about their learning.
Each year we wrap up the last day of school with a ceremonial bridge crossing that represents the students' journey through the year. The Bridging Ceremony will be on the last day of school starting at 8:45 a.m. Depending on the weather, the bridging will either be on the field or in the gym. There will be more information to follow as we get closer to the event. Thank you for your flexibility.

Our school is undertaking a new and exciting approach to sharing student learning, progress, and goal setting. Each grade level, from Kindergarten to 8th grade will participate in student-led conferences.
This approach is different from a traditional parent-teacher conference in that students facilitate the meeting with their families from start to finish. The role of the teacher is one of support and encouragement. Students are already in the preparation stages for this experience and it is sure to be an amazing event.
Student-led conferences require and empower students to take the lead role in communicating their learning. This practice builds dispositions and skills- such as adapting speech to the appropriate context and organizing and presenting information - vital skills for college and careers as well as a cornerstone of the Common Core speaking and listening standards.
A student-led conference has many benefits, both for the student and their families. The preparation leading up to the conference and the conference itself provides students with an authentic experience in which to practice and demonstrate their communication and organizational skills. Students will share their strengths and challenges and will set goals for their future learning. Although this will be a new experience, we are excited to guide students as they take ownership of their learning in this way. They have so much to be proud of!

CAASPP (State) Testing Begins This Week -

We all want our students to do their very best and our teachers do all they can to make the testing days comfortable for the students. Your student's teacher will let you know more details on when their class will be testing within the testing window.

Lois Van Der Leun Scholarship
|
|
Chico Country Day School established the Grandma Lois Scholarship four years ago with a generous donation by our former teacher, Carol Masters, and in honor of Lois Van der Leun, a volunteer at CCDS for many years through the local Foster Grandparent Program.
Applications are due by May 15 and will be evaluated based on a completed application and a one-page essay. The scholarship amount is $250. Please click the link below to download the scholarship application.

Mom's Restaurant is generously raising money for CCDS during the entire month of May. Their breakfast is amazing! When you order the 3 + 2 + 2 breakfast, Mom's will give our school $2!
"3+2+2" = three eggs, two strips of our house-made bacon & two slices of brioche French toast served with breakfast potatoes for only $8.69
A Mom's flyer will be sent home soon with information on this program. With the completed bookmark handed out at the beginning of the year and the $5 coupon, Mom's serves a wonderful and affordable family breakfast.

8th Graders Have a Busy Month Ahead!
|

The end of the year is near and as our 8
th
graders prepare for their next chapter they are feeling anticipation, excitement and of course many mixed emotions. During the next eight weeks, the class will be enjoying some very special CCDS traditions to celebrate the culmination of their last year at CCDS. We share in their excitement as they move into the high school years.
- April 23-25 – 8th graders head to Angel Island for an overnight study trip
- May 1 – You don’t want to miss this basketball game between the staff and 8th graders! It’s always entertaining! This is a fundraiser hosted by the 7th grade families to raise money for the 8th Grade Dinner Dance.
- May 17 – Last Middle School Dance, MS Common Area 7-9 p.m.
- May 20-24 – 8th graders meet with teachers and parents for a Student-Led Promotion Conference At this conference, students will have an opportunity to reflect with parents and a teacher about their time here at CCDS and also share their plan for being successful in high school.
- May 31 – 8th Grade Dinner Dance – A special celebration! This evening will take place at Grace Community Church. Dinner at 5:30 p.m. Dance – 7-9
- June 3 - Advisory Olympics at Bidwell Park - 6th-8th graders partiipate
- June 6 – 8th Grade Graduation in the CCDS Gym. Doors open at 2:30 p.m. Graduation begins at 3 p.m. No reserved seating.
