Praise:
Praise God that multiple conventions in Zimbabwe recently received a Baptist World Aid emergency grant to help provide food and greater health education. These funds will enable churches and individuals to address and respond to Covid-19.
Prayer:
A recent drought has left more than 5 million people at risk of food shortages. Please join us in prayer for rain and a fruitful harvest. BWA Executive Committee Member Joina Dhlula writes, "Our country is drought-stricken and people can hardly afford one decent meal per day. We do not have power most of the time because water levels have gone down. Please pray for our country."
In response to the racial injustices and unrest in the United States of America, the Baptist World Alliance has issued a joint statement with the North American Baptist Fellowship, one of the BWA's six regional fellowships.

Driven by our faith in the Lord Jesus, we proclaim that:

  • We lament and decry the explicit and implicit racism that treats some Americans as second-class citizens merely because of the color of their skin. We affirm that all people are made in the image of God.
  • We lament and decry the death of any and all persons. We affirm that all deserve a chance for justice in the courts, not a lynching in the streets.
  • We lament and decry that unarmed blacks are three times more likely to be killed by police than unarmed whites. We affirm that black lives matter to God and should also matter to us.
Join General Scretary Elijah Brown in praying for Baptist non-profits worldwide that are providing aid, community development, legal assistance, housing placement, senior adult care, advocacy and so much more. Pray for this vital work and the many whose lives and livelihoods are strengthened by these ministries.
Join us also in honoring the life and legacy of former BWA President Knud Wümpelmann who died June 2, 2020, at the age of 97. Serving as President from 1990-1995 and in numerous other Baptist leadership roles leading up to his presidency, he was always quick to deflect personal attention in order to place the focus solely on the Lord. When asked what he wanted his presidency to be remembered for, he said: "My 'presidency' is not so important! What counts is God's mercy to His people and of that we have received a great deal: the growth of our membership…, the unity in diversity strong enough to keep us together, the help in times of great distress…, and the gift of hope for a great future."

His last message to the global Baptist family within Baptist World magazine remains as relevant today: "Love one another, because love won another!" We are so grateful for this good and faithful servant and join in prayer for the family, including Karen, his wife of 73 years and their two sons, Jørgen and Mogens. A Prayer from Zimbabwe

Lord God,
we give you thanks for sending your only Son to give us life.
In the midst of wealth we are crushed by poverty,
and while we are offered Christ-life in all its fullness,
we are surrounded by disease, death and destruction.
We are tempted to despair, and yet keep hoping,
knowing that you care.
At times we weep silent tears, and cry out with deep emotion.
We come to you, our only hope and refuge.
Thank you for the gift of laughter,
even when the going is tough.
With you, O Lord, we may be troubled but not destroyed.
