COVID Update #14
Lea Filson, Executive Director, See Plymouth
Rome wasn’t built in a day. After Hurricane Katrina, we used to say, “There is real time and there is Katrina time” because everything took so much longer than anyone hoped during the recovery. We are now faced with the same during the COVID crisis.

For some, it will be a lesson in growing stronger. For others, it will be a wakeup call that they are not doing what they want to do anyway. The worst scenario is for the people who love their businesses, have given it their all, and now must face closure. That is not because they aren’t strong, nor that they have decided they want something else. They are the neighbors around us that we all need to circle and support. It is because life doesn’t always work out the way we expect that we learn how much others care.

Beginning with phase two, See Plymouth staff will begin coming into the office again, with new rules in place. We will stagger hours so we don’t share offices, and we will add a cleaning service and our own cleaning supplies at each desk. Everyone has worked from home achieving great results during this ‘stay at home’ period. Luckily, we were able to get the See Plymouth Commemorative Guidebook in the mail in time to hit your mailboxes sometime this week.

We are also working on changes as we operate our Visitor Centers. Both on the waterfront and at Route 3, Exit 5 we will operate in a new way to keep both our staff and our visitors safe. In addition to the guidebook, we have four new mini-map flyers to give out that are beautiful and helpful. Once you are out and about, stop by and say hello to Visitor Information Center Manager, Ted Curtin at the MA State Visitor Center at Route 3, Exit 5 or to Visitor Information Center Manager, Jack Girard at our See Plymouth Waterfront Visitor Center along Plymouth Harbor.

I can never say thank you enough to our staff so help me by thanking them yourselves as well. Paula Fisher, Director of Marketing and Group Tours; Georgia Stanley, Director of Operations; Claire MacPherson, Director of Digital Marketing and Creative; John Joyce, Finance Manager; Tricia Ellis, Administrative Assistant and Website Administrator and our Visitor Center teams are anxious to return and begin welcoming visitors. A huge thank you as well to our boards and two board Presidents – Kevin T. Martin, Destination Plymouth and Jim Saunders, Plymouth County Development Council.

Great information in today’s update. I hope you will take the time to gain the insights it offers and enjoy the videos and articles. We are here if you need us!

While the See Plymouth staff continues working from home, even our intern continued her assignment. Intern Lauren Kelliher from Rising Tide High School turned in this video for her final assignment with See Plymouth. We thought she did a great job! Lauren is graduating this year and will attend Stonehill College in the fall with a major in Business.
