As-Salaamu-Alaikum everyone,
“When finals are over I’m going to….”.
Do you remember how you filled in this blank? Were there things you promised you’d do once the semester is over? Are you finding it difficult “getting around to it"? While in classes, your syllabus clearly outlined your next steps to help you meet deadlines and achieve goals. For some of us, staying on task is second nature. The rest of us may need a little help. It’s so easy to get distracted with life as we scroll through the worlds highs and lows on social media.
Take the time to get to know yourself. What would be a fulfilling way to spend the remainder of your break? year? life? What can you look back at and feel it brought you closer the kind of person you want to be? Do a brain dump of all the things that come to mind and choose small steps to help you walk on that path.
Watch out though! What's the #1 thing stealing your time and getting in the way of how you want to spend the rest of your break? The documentary film The Social Dilemma reveals that many of us are losing precious time to social media because it's designed to suck us in. It's literally addictive and affects our brain's chemistry. So make sure you also find time to relax, learn some deep breathing techniques, take a walk, connect with family and friends, get some art supplies out and just play around.
May Allah bless you to connect with what is fulfilling to your mind, body and soul.
