Village Board Votes to Extend Moratorium Ordinance on Recreational Cannabis
At the June 21, 2021 Special Village Board Meeting, the Board voted to extend the Moratorium Ordinance on accepting or approving applications for recreational cannabis dispensaries in Glen Ellyn until September 28, 2021. This extension will allow for additional review time for new Village Board members. The Moratorium Ordinance will maintain the status quo by prohibiting recreational cannabis businesses in Glen Ellyn. The Village Board will continue to weigh this decision and will revisit the topic in September 2021.

For more information on this topic, including background information and frequently asked questions, please visit the Village of Glen Ellyn's website.
Vehicle Sticker Deadline Nearing: June 30, 2021
The deadline to purchase and display Village vehicle stickers is June 30, 2021. You are required to purchase and display a current Glen Ellyn vehicle sticker for all vehicles registered to a Glen Ellyn address. This includes leased vehicles, company cars and vehicles kept outside of the Village.

Effective July 1, 2021, a $30 late fee will be applied to every vehicle sticker sale.

To avoid lines at the Civic Center, vehicle sticker payments are encouraged to be made online, through the mail, or placed in the drop box located in front of the Civic Center.

For more information and link to pay online, visit the Village website. For additional questions on vehicle stickers, please contact the Village's Finance Department at (630) 547-5235.
Civic Center to be Closed July 5, 6 & 7
Village offices will be closed on Monday, July 5 in observance of the 4th of July holiday. Following this holiday closure, the Village’s Civic Center will be closed on Tuesday, July 6 and Wednesday, July 7 for maintenance to the Village's enterprise resource planning software. With this software upgrade and facility closure, residents and businesses should plan ahead.

The software being upgraded is responsible for most of the functions performed by the Finance and Community Development departments, therefore, it will be unavailable to Village of Glen Ellyn staff, citizens and businesses during this time period. Most notable to citizens, cashiering (including utility billing) and the ability to accept or process permits will be unavailable during this two day span. Some forms of payments will be unavailable or limited during the upgrade process.

The full update to the system is expected to conclude by end of day on Wednesday, July 7 with the Civic Center reopening for business on Thursday, July 8. We hope this advanced notice will allow additional time to plan ahead for bill payment and/or permitting.
Public Works Encourages Residents to Water Your Trees
The scant rainfall received so far this spring has resulted in very dry soil conditions. During times of drought, trees must be given extra care. If stress from drought does not kill a tree outright, it can set it up for secondary disease or insect infestations in coming years. Newly planted and young trees are especially vulnerable as the root system is not well established. Trees growing within a restricted area (i.e. in a parkway, next to a driveway or house, etc.) and trees that have recently received root injury due to construction work are also in danger of drought injury, but all trees are susceptible.

Deep watering to a depth of 6” to 12” below soil surface is recommended during a drought. Follow these suggested watering tips:
  • Water slowly to get the water down to the tree roots.
  • Set a garden hose to a very slow flow. Water close to the trunk first and work your way out from there.
  • Use a root feeder which attaches to your garden hose. Turn the water on very slowly and push into the ground no deeper that 4-6”. Reposition in 2 to 3 places around the tree.
  • A general rule of thumb is to use approximately 10 gallons of water per inch of trunk diameter each time you water.

This process should be repeated every week during a severe drought.
DuPage County Launches Budget Survey
DuPage County residents can share their views regarding programs and initiatives important to them by completing the County’s annual budget survey, which is now available online.

DuPage County residents may take the brief survey HERE or from the County’s homepage and clicking on the budget survey link.

Each year, the DuPage County Board asks residents to provide their thoughts pertaining to County programs and spending priorities. The information helps determine spending levels for the County’s various programs.

The survey coincides with the regular budget process for Fiscal Year 2022, which begins on December 1, 2021. County Board Chairman Dan Cronin will present his Fiscal Year 2022 budget plan to the County Board on September 28, 2021.
