Update provided by Long-Range Planning Committee
Tim McClure, assistant superintendent for facilities, provided an update to trustees on behalf of the Long-Range Planning Committee regarding their progress studying the growth of Northwest ISD and the possible near- and long-term capital needs for the district.

An important topic currently being discussed by committee members is the number of schools to be built over the next 10 years, such as how many elementary schools to add and when it makes sense to construct a fourth comprehensive high school. Committee members include parents, district staff and community leaders.

Cara Carter named executive director of technology
Trustees approved the administration’s recommendation to promote Cara Carter to executive director of technology, where she will oversee all technological and digital initiatives within Northwest ISD.

Mrs. Carter previously served as director of instructional technology, where she worked closely with teachers and campuses to align their curriculum and classroom activities with technology. Mrs. Carter has served the students of Northwest ISD in various additional roles since joining district in 2004, including coordinator of instructional technology, campus instructional technologist and elementary teacher.

She has played a leading role in championing digital initiatives for the district, including Northwest ISD’s Digital School Districts Survey Award and Common Sense certification. Ms. Carter obtained her bachelor’s degree in elementary education and interdisciplinary studies from the University of North Texas, while she earned her master’s degree in education from Lamar University.

High school course planning guide for 2020-21 discussed
District leaders presented trustees with an overview of their current progress on the 2020-21 high school course planning guide, with a vote for the matter scheduled for the Dec. 9 school board meeting.

School districts annually review their course planning guides to update the list of available classes for the next school year. Most classes are unchanged, though slight modifications have been made based on student interest, such as the addition of dual credit French I and II courses.
