At its stated meeting on August 17th, 2021, the Session of 2nd Presbyterian Church implemented the following Covid Precaution Phases. The congregation will be informed if/when we move to a different phase.

As of September 9th, we are still in PHASE RED.

Covid Precaution Phases:

Each phase is tied to the 7-Day Average Covid-19 Percent Positive Test data as reported by the Knox County Health Department. (Currently being reported on Tuesday and Thursday.) If the data necessitates a move into a different phase, an email notification will be sent to the congregation and the website will be updated to indicate the current phase. Additionally, signs will be posted on the doors of the building and the information will be repeated in the Friday E-News. The precautions associated with each phase will be displayed on the home page of the website.
The Faith, Science & the Future Sunday School class will meet via phone conference only this week. All are welcome to participate!

Start time: 9:45 a.m.
Phone number to call: 712-775-8972
Conference code: 179021

*Please be advised this is a long distance call for any who
might be using a home phone with long distance charges.

Wednesday Night Bible Study will continue this
Wednesday, Sept. 15th at 6:30 p.m.

If we are still in Covid Phase Red, there will be no dinner and the class will take place virtually on Zoom until we return to Orange. The Zoom link is below, and you will also receive an email on Wednesday morning with the link and the current week's discussion questions.

Once we have returned to Covid Phase Orange, the Bible Study will be in-person with a Zoom option for those who wish to join from home. We will also gather for dinner at 6:00 p.m. during Covid Phase Orange, but a prepared meal will not be served. Instead, we invite those who desire to gather for dinner with each person/family providing their own “brown bag” dinner.

This fall we will be studying The Kingdom Parables of Jesus, those parables in which Jesus says, “The Kingdom of Heaven is like…” The format will be lecture/small group discussion. Pastor Tim will review the story for 20 minutes or so then we will break into small groups for discussion questions together. The makeup of each group will change from week to week and the discussion questions will be provided.
Food & Friends will resume when we return to Covid Phase Orange.

Food & Friends is a fellowship ministry to college students and young adults that provides a free lunch following worship. While in Covid Phase Orange we will gather in the Fellowship Hall for a catered meal. Once we reach Covid Phase Yellow we will return to visiting a local restaurant each week.

Hosts for Food & Friends are needed each week to arrange for the meal.
If you are interested in serving as a host this fall, please contact Patricia Kennedy (patricia.w.kennedy@gmail.com).

Additional Volunteers Needed!

We are trying to finalize our fall volunteer schedule and are still needing 2 people willing to be in our nursery on a 6-week rotation. We are also in need of 1 person to help teach Kindergarten-5th grade Sunday school once a month. If you are interested, please contact Holly Grimm at hgrimm@2ndpres.org or 865-243-6353.
If you like to shop, the Fish Pantry mission is in need of the following household and personal items:

-Dish Soap
-Bath Soap
-Shampoo
-Toothpaste
-Deodorant
-Toilet Paper

Our once-a-month Fish team receives phone call requests for food and these additional items; then they are sorted, packed, and delivered to each client's household.

All donations should be newly purchased, and any quantities would be greatly appreciated.

They can be dropped off into the “Fish” bin that sits on the floor in the coat rack area just off the atrium. Thank you!
Compassionate Cuisine is a program from the Care and Compassion committee and our Cooking Teams. This group is collaborating to create a homecooked meal, and will gather safely at the church to package them into individual portions, that they will then distribute to some of our members who are living in their homes but may not be getting out and about to pick up dinner or groceries to make a home-cooked meal.

The teams would love to have your help in cooking and/or distributing meals in hopes that this ministry might be able to grow in the coming months. If you’re interested in helping by cooking a portion of one of the meals and/or would be willing to deliver some of the meals, please contact Leslie Matthews: flowlilly@gmail.com, (865) 765-0549.
