John Le Lay World Cup
John Le Lay was a member of the FC Richmond family for over 25 years. He contributed to the lives of hundreds of youth soccer players in the Richmond area. During his time with FC Richmond, John served as a Magic coach, Mystx coach, Metro coach, and was a longtime Player Development coach.  On October 16th, 2010, FC Richmond and the entire Richmond soccer community suffered a great loss. News had come of the passing of John Le Lay after a long battle with cancer. John’s love and passion for the game of soccer will live on in the memories of the players and parents of those who knew him. John started the “World Cup” for the U8 & U9 Player Development Program. It was truly one of his favorite events. Unfortunately, we had to cancel the World Cup this year due to COVID-19. We look forward to next year when we can gather PDP players, families, and the Le Lay family to celebrate John.
Live Soccer is Back on TV
Live Soccer is back! The Bundesliga officially returned on May 16. Here is a link to their website to see the matchups. https://www.bundesliga.com/en/bundesliga While on their website check out the Americans in Germany article. There's a little shout out to FC Richmond's own Nick Taitague down near the end! The English Government has given the Premier League the green light to begin June 1. Clubs still have to vote on whether to return and when but at least it's a first step!
Community Outreach
Our Junior Board and U16-U19 Magic/ Mystx players went "Beyond the Game" by collecting 570 pounds of food for the Chesterfield Food Bank! A "Food Drive Challenge", sponsored by the Junior Board, brought these players together for the good of the community. Our U16 Magic team won the challenge, but it was close thanks to our generous families!
"Beyond the Game" Players
Sophie Azula, Sydney Clayton, Kate Morris and Jeanne Wolkiewicz, from our U-19 Mystx team, began working at Genetworx Lab about four weeks ago in hopes of helping the community and protecting people from Coronavirus. The girls work in different capacities from registering samples to assisting with billing. When asked about their experience at the lab, Sophie said, "I like that the work at Genetworx is purposeful. Testing is a huge key in preventing the spread of Covid-19, and when I work I feel as though I am contributing to an extremely unique but relevant issue".
"All of the people who work there are really great and I feel like I am helping in the fight against the Coronavirus. It's a small contribution but every bit helps", Sydney shared. Great work going "Beyond the Game" and helping to keep our community safe and healthy!
