City of Menlo Park Seeking Feedback on the Next City Manager
The City Council of Menlo Park has hired The Hawkins Company to conduct an executive search to hire the next City Manager. As part of the process, the City and The Hawkins Company are asking for your input about the desired qualifications, attributes, and experience the next City Manager should possess. Please submit your responses by September 30, 2021. Your response will guide our approach to the identification, recruitment, and evaluation of appropriate potential candidates. Take the survey now!

In addition to the survey, the public is also invited to participate in one of the following community forums listed below. The purpose of the forum is to provide the public with more information about the search process and to learn more about what community members are looking for in the next city manager. All forums are virtual and will take place on the following days:
  • Saturday, September 25, from 11 am to Noon, via Zoom

Silicon Valley Sculpture 2021
The Silicon Valley Sculpture (SVS) is a 4-day fine art fair showcasing a curated selection of outdoor sculptures by 30+ sculptures.

SVS2021 seeks to define Silicon Valley through public art. Our theme this year is Shifting Perspectives. Produced by nonprofit Menlo Park Public Art.

By exhibiting large-scale sculptures in the heart of Silicon Valley, they are increasing access to art in an area where the importance of technology has often surpassed the recognition of other forms of culture.

In addition to large-scale fine art sculptures with a narrative exhibited in a natural environment, the event will include performance art that draws attention to pressing issues facing the Silicon Valley community, such as privacy, equality, displacement.

Opportunities Denied, Promises Not Kept: Racism and Bias—The African American Journey
In part 4 of our series on equity, Mary Bacon, Ph.D. will discuss the difficult issues related to racism and bias in American society for all people of color.

Although discussions of equity and social justice may apply to myriad groups, most often the focus of the discussion is on African American people, given the many daunting and persistent barriers they encounter that can inhibit their access to success in many aspects of life.

We’ll explore some of the interpersonal and institutional impediments to success experienced by African Americans, and the challenges in intergroup relationships that have been shaped by the history of oppression.
