Housing Support Available for Individuals and Families Experiencing Homelessness or Domestic Violence
A new option for housing support has become available as of August 2021 through the American Recovery Plan Act. It is called the “Emergency Housing Voucher Program” and is available to individuals and families who are facing one or more of these circumstances:
  • Is experiencing homelessness – lacking a fixed, regular and adequate nighttime residence and is staying in a shelter or other temporary living arrangement
  • Is at risk of homelessness – the residence will be lost within 21 days of the date of your application for assistance and you have not been able to identify a new residence
  • Is fleeing, or attempting to flee, domestic violence, dating violence, stalking, human trafficking, or other related concerns
  • Needs rental assistance to prevent homelessness

In this federally-funded program DHA is not able to accept applications for assistance directly from individuals. The program is managed by a group called the “Dallas Continuum of Care,” which refers eligible applicants to DHA. DHA determines applicant eligibility, and then implements the program and the funding for approved applicants.

If you believe you are eligible for the program based on the criteria above, please contact the Emergency Housing Voucher Program coordinator at 888.411.6802.
