NEW CCS/CHS PROJECT OPENING IN GREENWOOD

In Fall 2021 Catholic Housing Services and Catholic Community Services of Western Washington will be opening a new building on Greenwood Ave in North Seattle to provide housing and services for local college students experiencing homelessness. This new building is within walking distance of St. John.

We are excited to begin leasing to students in the coming months. The St. John community can help support these students as they move in to their new homes by creating welcome home baskets. Our most needed items are bedding, kitchen utensils, and cleaning supplies. You can find a wish list of all needed items online at http://tgt.gifts/greenwoodwelcomehome

JUST ASK
If you or someone you know is in need of emergency assistance, please call the St. Vincent de Paul Helpline Center at 206-767-6449.

Calls are accepted Monday through Friday from 8AM to 3PM.
There is also an online help request form in English or en Espanol, for those who prefer to email their requests.

When a call is received, the request is forwarded to that person’s parish conference of St. Vincent de Paul. All requests are handled quickly and confidentially. We are able to provide help with food, utilities, rent, and more.

There is also a foodbank in Georgetown at 5972 Fourth Ave S, Seattle, WA 98108 Phone 206-767-9975
We will have special collection envelopes in the pews and the Parish Office the next couple of weeks or you can click on the picture above to donate electronically now.
ACA UPDATE: WE DID IT!

ASANTE SANA! With the help of 104 families so far, we have reached our 2021 Annual Catholic Appeal goal of $91,896! Once again, the great community of St. John came together as one to offer support to the more than 60 ministries in Western Washington that the ACA funds.

Now that we have met our goal, 100% of any further pledges will come directly back to St. John to help fund our upgraded and permanent video and sound system in the church. As the result of our All Parish Survey, there was overwhelming support for continuing to live-stream the Masses, Sacraments and other events.

If you would still like to contribute, the easiest way to give is online here
or call the ACA office at 1-800-809-4921.
“Ladies, do you desire to live in greater freedom? Are you longing for an authentic encounter with your true feminine identity? Register for the Undone Women’s Conference where you will experience a time of truth, beauty, and transformation, as the knots of Eve’s disobedience are “undone” through Mary’s model of radical receptivity.

Bring yourself, your mother, your sister, your adult daughters, and friends. This is a conference you won’t want to miss!

Undone: Freedom for the Feminine Heart will be held at Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Sammamish, WA September 9-11, 2021 (2 evenings and all day Saturday). This event is being offered in person OR virtually via livestream! Register online for either experience at www.jpiihealingcenter.org. Scholarships, student and missionary discounts available. Contact JPIIRetreatSammWA@gmail.com for more information.”

We ran across a St. John’s Mothers' Club cookbook from 1965-66 in our archives. We thought it might be fun to share a little bit of culinary history with you each week in our newsletter. Enjoy!

Season of Creation
September marks the end of summer and back to school. September also marks the start of the Season of Creation. September 1st is also the World Day of Prayer for Creation as Pope Francis has proclaimed...

In Western Washington, on Wednesday, September 1, the local Franciscans are leading a virtual Prayer Service from 7-8pm over Zoom. The service will include related scripture readings, music, prayers and participatory reflections and intercessions. Here is the zoom link. If you are prompted for a password, enter 211228.

Our school theme this year is:
“Together We Can: Walk with Justice, Love with Mercy, and Walk Humbly with God”. This year we will focus on how we can walk humbly with God by following the steps of saints, and learning how to be the best version of ourselves for God.
September
Your way, O God, is holy. (Psalm 77:14)
Humility is all about seeing ourselves the way God sees us. Broken, hurting, sinful-but infinitely valuable because He made us that way, in His image and likeness. Humility is when we lean more on God and less on ourselves. It is the foundation of prayer. Only when we humbly acknowledge that “we do not know how to pray as we ought,” are we ready to receive freely the gift of prayer. This virtue shows that God is the author of all good.
