Dear PCPI Members,

As the world shuts down to battle the novel coronavirus, I hope this finds you all healthy and staying safe. It is important at this time to make sure that we keep our families close and protect those around us that will be most affected. As members of a cooperative we all understand this very well. We work as a team to create a safe and better place for our children and community. What we know so well is more important than ever. Follow your public health regulations and choose to stay home. Take care of your own family and that of your volunteer family by keeping a safe distance and getting creative with your time at home.

We have some preschools that are choosing to stay connected using phone calls, conference calls, email, Facebook Live, YouTube channels, Facetime, and other video conferencing programs. In many cases the children can stay in the comfort of their home and join in songs and fun with their teacher and classmates. What a great idea! I have started to write a gratitude journal with my kids. I ask them for something each day that they are grateful for and what they come up with can be so enlightening to me. I am sure we all have a long list of things that we never get to, so take the time and do them while you find yourself at home. Also don’t isolate yourself from nature. Take a walk, go for a bike ride, get the kids outside. Our mental and physical well-being is important. You can access our Cooperatively Speaking Facebook group and share your ideas. To request membership to the group, you just have to answer three simple questions.

As an organization, we have cancelled our Annual Meetings in Portland, OR this year. We will be testing out new ways to stay connected during this time. We have important work to do and will continue to do so during this time of crisis. Please stay connected. We will continue to share information through our Constant Contact and social media outlets. If you have anything to share, questions to ask or concerns to raise, please reach out. We look forward to coming out of this safely and to resuming life as we know it.

Please remember, together we are stronger.

Cooperatively yours,

Mariah Battiston
