UNEXPECTED REMOTE WORK JOBS
When we think about remote jobs our minds instantly go to jobs with high level technology skill sets. But this is no longer the case There are more jobs than ever that can be done remotely, and opportunities abound even in industries known for in-person duties, such as construction and manufacturing, according to a recent report from Upwork, an online platform that connects freelance workers with employers. While these jobs do require some technology related skills they are not all at the very high technology skill levels that most people think of when they think of remote work.
Upwork analyzed data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics about remote jobs in industries that traditionally require more manual skills, like manufacturing or mining. Upwork discovered that, surprisingly, many of these fields offer work-from-home jobs. Their findings echo a 2020 report from the University of Chicago and the National Bureau of Economic Research suggesting that 37 percent of all American jobs can be performed from home.

ANOTHER REMOTE WORK VIRTUAL SERVICE DELIVERY RESOURCE
In the last issue, I shared some resources to support frontline staff to incorporate texting into their virtual service delivery toolbox. I wanted to share some additional resources about texting as a virtual service strategy. My colleagues at Pathways Consultants are experts in the field of virtual service delivery via texting as an engagement, persistence, and retention strategy. They are founders of CareerHub, a free and low-cost texting service for frontline staff, and provide training and team planning for workforce and human service agencies to integrate texting into your team’s daily workflow. If you’re interested in free training, join their monthly CareerHub Users Group on October 13th at 11:30 AM PDT or contact Pathways Consultants for additional training like the titles listed below. LOOKING AHEAD TO 2022
This is the last issue of the newsletter for this year and what a year it has been! I want to thank everyone that has been so supportive of me and my work in this challenging time. The biggest thanks of all goes to my wife Sue Doro. Without Sue’s support, love, advice, help and determination I would not be able to do this work. I am very happy to say that in January of 2022 we will be celebrating 51 years of being together! What a joy it has been. Thanks to all of you that have used my services, attended my trainings, written me with words of support and positive comments about this newsletter and my work. Your kindness means a lot to me. Thanks to all of you for the incredibly important life altering work that you do every day! Your impact goes far beyond what the funding sources count as outcomes. You transform lives and communities and make this world a better place. I wish you the best for 2022!
