Ending 2020 with a Look Back

While 2020 has been a year unlike any other—full of changes and challenges—our resilient community has adapted, innovated around obstacles, and rose to the challenges brought on by each new day with determination and compassion.

2020 has also brought many great achievements in Cutler Bay—we finalized the "land swap" deal; made an important environmental decision to purchase 8.43 acres of buffer land; began construction on the restoration and improvement of Franjo Park; kicked off the first phase of the Franjo Roadway improvement project; launched the GO Connect free transit service; opened the Canoe/Kayak launch at Lakes by the Bay Park; and Cutler Bay turned 15 years in November!

We invite you to explore some of this year's accomplishments and challenges through this video we prepared for our State of the Town event back in October.

Christmas Tree Recycling

Go green and recycle your evergreen! Here are several options available to recycle your clean, decoration-free Christmas trees:

Drop it off at a Trash & Recycling Center
Drop it off at West Miami-Dade Home Chemical Collection Center
Place it curbside by January 10
Cut up your tree & put in your green garbage cart
Use one of your two bulky waste pickups for tree collection

Canoe/Kayak Launch at Lakes by the Bay Park is Open

Great news—the Canoe/Kayak Launch at Lakes by the Bay Park is now open!

Before you visit, watch Mayor Tim Meerbott and Joy Burgos of Nature Postings go on a virtual kayak tour of the area.

In the new year, we will be partnering with Nature Postings to provide monthly kayak tours. We will announce more information on the tours very soon, so stay tuned to our social media channels and sign up to receive our e-news—sign up now at www.cutlerbay-fl.gov/subscribe.

To access the site, you may go through the entrance located on SW 85 Avenue (south of SW 212 street) or you may park at Lakes by the Bay Park (8551 SW 216 Street) and take the short trail located at the north end of the parking lot. Watch this video to learn more about the new Canoe/Kayak Site.

Active Adults: Healthy Eating Virtual Class Series with Short Chef Begins

Active Adults—we are offering a Healthy Eating Virtual Class Series with Short Chef in the new year! Classes will be held on:

All classes will begin at 10 a.m. Space is limited so please RSVP with Gabriela Blaylock at (786) 573-5576 or at mblaylock@cutlerbay-fl.gov. Once registered, you will be provided with a shopping list and recipe, so you are able to follow along with the cooking demo. Link to the Zoom class will be provided once RSVP is confirmed.

*Active Adults series of events are designed for Town Residents aged 55 and over.

Floodplain Mitigation Plan Advisory Committee Vacancy

We're seeking one Cutler Bay resident from the local business community to fill a vacancy on our Floodplain Mitigation Plan Advisory Committee. The Advisory Committee was created to guide the community through the development of the Floodplain Mitigation Plan and a program for public information. If you are interested, send your resume and a list of qualifications or other relevant information to the Office of the Town Clerk by 5 p.m. Friday, January 8, 2021.
