Betsy is a member of the Iris Dreamer Class in Boulder and graduated from Boulder High School. In the summer of her junior year in high school, she participated in the "I Have A Dream" pre-collegiate  residential program at the  University of Colorado-Boulder where she took college classes and stayed in the dorms for two weeks. In her words, "this on-campus experience helped me realize that I could attend a big university such as CU."

Through "I Have A Dream", Betsy secured a paid internship with Nurse-Family Partnership where she gained valuable experience working with first-time moms and the nurses who serve them. This sparked her interest in becoming a labor and delivery nurse.

To achieve her dream, she is now in her third year at CU, studying  Integrative Physiology. She is the first person in her family to attend college. Reflecting, she said to luncheon guests, "It's been an incredible journey to get here. One I couldn't have imagined without "I Have A Dream"'.

As an alumnus of "I Have A Dream", Betsy now serves younger Dreamer Scholars as a counselor for the same CU residential pre-collegiate program she attended. She is also a volunteer tutor and program assistant for the "I Have A Dream" Elk Dreamer Scholar Class of 5th and 6th graders, where her little brother is a Dreamer Scholar.

In December of 2001, Kristen and Ariel Solomon created an endowment with the "I Have A Dream" Foundation of Boulder County in memory of their son, Dakota Solomon, who passed away at the age of seven. The Dakota Solomon Memorial Fund was matched by a challenge grant from the Community Foundation serving Boulder County. With this fund, the "I Have A Dream" Foundation awards a college scholarship to a Dreamer attending college each year. To date, 18 incredible young people have been awarded the scholarship throughout Boulder County.
