A continuación compartimos el mensaje enviado a Padres de Familia hoy mayo 6 de 2020.

Estimados Padres de Familia:

Ya estamos terminando la séptima semana de implementación de nuestro Plan de Continuidad Académica con Aprendizaje a Distancia y queremos compartir con ustedes nuestras apreciaciones. Para tener información actualizada y de primera mano, nos hemos reunido con la Junta Directiva, el Equipo Administrativo (continuamente), con todos los profesores (por grados), además de los equipos de Consejería y de Servicios de Apoyo al Aprendizaje. De igual forma, se han tenido reuniones con todos los Consejos de Padres (por sección) y hemos recibido diferentes comunicaciones de parte de ustedes (email o Make Bolivar Better ). Muy importante ha sido para nosotros poder recoger también el sentir de nuestros estudiantes a través de estos medios y en reunión con los representantes del Consejo Estudiantil. De esta manera, creemos tener una panorámica de cómo estamos viviendo este proceso desde los diferentes estamentos. Sin embargo, queremos conocer las opiniones de todos y cada uno de ustedes y es por ello que los invitamos a diligenciar una Encuesta utilizando este enlace .

Con base en la información que hemos recogido hasta ahora, en primer lugar, queremos reconocer la flexibilidad con la que la inmensa mayoría ha asumido este reto lo que ha permitido que estemos mejor que al comienzo. Apreciamos enormemente la confianza que muchos de ustedes nos han ratificado y la capacidad de resiliencia de la comunidad, especialmente evidente en los estudiantes que se han amoldado a la nueva rutina, lo cual es innegable. El deseo de hacer lo mejor que podemos, t odos , y el compromiso mancomunado al apoyar a sus hijos es palpable también. Fundamental ha sido la prioridad dada al aspecto emocional que conjuntamente debemos proteger en estos momentos y que nos dejará las mayores lecciones.

Es muy alentador y positivo saber que, a través de las diferentes actividades evaluativas y de retroalimentación, los profesores han podido constatar que el aprendizaje se está dando, aunque las condiciones no sean las óptimas. Gratificante también es el ver cómo esta situación ha favorecido a un número significativo de estudiantes que está más conectado con lo escolar que antes o notar cómo la comunicación directa se ha dado con mayor frecuencia en muchos casos.

Somos conscientes de la necesidad de seguir monitoreando la cantidad de trabajo asignado (que algunos querrían aumentar y otros disminuir) así como el balance entre los momentos sincrónicos y los asincrónicos. En este tema, sobre el cual hemos recibido la mayor retroalimentación, nos hemos guiado por lo que recomiendan expertos a través de organizaciones a nivel mundial como AAIE ( Association for the Advancement of International Education ), ISS ( International School Services ), o la Tri-Association ( Association of American Schools in Mexico, Central America, Colombia-Caribbean ), por mencionar sólo algunas. Estamos haciendo un manejo que respete lo que se considera conveniente para niños y jóvenes, dependiendo de los momentos de desarrollo y autonomía, de preescolar a secundaria, y que garantice que ese elemento de conexión entre profesores y sus estudiantes, o entre los compañeros de clase, no se pierda.

En cuanto a los temas de cantidad de trabajo y las razones por las cuales estamos manejando lo sincrónico y lo asincrónico de esta manera, así como en relación con la evaluación y el cierre de procesos, queremos complementar esta información con datos más específicos por sección . Estarán entonces recibiendo un comunicado la semana entrante de parte de los directores.

Entendemos lo que esta pandemia ha implicado para ustedes como papás, generando cambios, temores, retos, malestares y hasta frustraciones que ustedes están manejando. En algunos casos, es posible que las situaciones sobrepasen esa capacidad de manejo o que ellas estén afectando significativamente las relaciones familiares. De ser así, por favor contacten a los consejeros quienes estarán dispuestos a apoyarlos y a ayudarlos a encontrar alternativas viables. Los aspectos positivos de la vida en familia que estamos viviendo deben preservarse.

Dear Parents,

We are already finishing the seventh week of the implementation of our Academic Continuity Distance Learning Plan and want to share with you our assessments of the process. To have up-to-date and first-hand information, we have met with the Board of Directors, the Administrative Team (continuously), with all teachers (by grades), in addition to the Counselors and Learning Support Services teams. Similarly, there have been meetings with all the Parent Councils (by section), and we have received many communications from you through email and Make Bolivar Better. Finally, we have met with the student councils of each section for their thoughts, feelings, and experiences with Distance Learning. This feedback, community-wide, is especially important in allowing us a panoramic view of how we are all managing this process through our stakeholder’s eyes. However, we want to know the opinions of each and every one of you and that is why we invite you to fill out a Survey using this link .

Based on the information collected so far, we want to acknowledge the flexibility with which the vast majority of people have taken on this challenge and that has allowed us to do better than in the beginning. We greatly appreciate the enormous trust that you have given us and the resilience of our community, especially evident in the progress and engagement we have seen from students’ successful and undeniable adaptation to this new routine. The desire to do the best we can, the entire community, and the joint commitment of our families supporting your children are palpable, as well. Fundamental has been the priority given to the emotional aspect that together we must protect at this moment and that will leave us the greatest lessons.

Through our evaluations and feedback on Distance Learning, it is both reassuring and encouraging to know that students and teachers alike feel that learning is taking place and visible advancements being made even under less than optimal conditions. It is also gratifying to see how this situation has favored a significant number of students who are more connected to school than before or to notice how direct communication has occurred more frequently in many cases.

We are aware of the need to continue monitoring the amount of work assigned (which some would like to increase and others to decrease) as well as the balance between synchronous and asynchronous communications. This topic, on which we have received the most feedback, has been informed and guided by what experts recommend through organizations worldwide such as the AAIE (Association for the Advancement of International Education), ISS (International School Services), and the Tri -Association (Association of American Schools in Mexico, Central America, Colombia-Caribbean), to name just a few. We are observing what is considered most beneficial for students, depending upon developmental and autonomy levels, from preschool to high school. We want to be able to guarantee the element of connection between teachers and their students, or among classmates.

Regarding the issues of workload and the decision and management of synchronous and asynchronous teaching, as well as in relation to the evaluation and closure of processes, we want to complement this information with more specific data by section . You will then be receiving a communication from the principals next week addressing those issues.

We understand what this pandemic has implied for you as parents, generating changes, fears, challenges, discomforts and even frustrations that you are managing. In some cases, situations may outweigh that ability to handle them or they may be significantly affecting relationships at home. If that is the case, please contact the counselors who will be willing to support you and help you find viable alternatives. The positive aspects of family life that we are living must be preserved.
