Greetings from Cushing Academy!
We hope this message finds you healthy and well. As a follow up to the Re-Opening webinar on Tuesday, July 14, the Office of Student Affairs would like to welcome the newest members of Cushing Academy to our community by inviting you to our
Virtual Orientation Kick-Off on Tuesday, July 21 at 7:00 PM Eastern Time
(see Zoom information at the end of this letter).
In this first meeting, new students will have a chance to meet some of Cushing’s student leaders and hear from our student body co-presidents. Overall, the
four-week Virtual Orientation
will be a blend of Zoom meetings and webinars that will allow students to learn more about Cushing and also meet classmates.
These meetings will occur on Tuesday and Thursday nights starting at 7:00 PM Eastern.
While we would much prefer to have students experience this type of orientation on campus, the need for physical distancing has pushed our orientation online. We hope that these sessions will provide some helpful insight into the Cushing community and bring a level of familiarity and comfort prior to arrival.
On Thursday, July 23, the Student Experience Task Force and the Academic Office will be hosting a webinar that will focus on the academic schedule
(Zoom information is at the end of this letter). Since the academic schedule will be new for every member of the community, we ask that all students (returning and new) participate on this date.
While these meetings are not mandatory, we highly encourage students to attend to meet classmates and better understand the Cushing community. Every week for the next four weeks, we will be sending out a message that provides an overview of the upcoming orientation and webinars. Meetings will also be recorded and posted for those who are unable to attend.
Since some of our meetings will function as Zoom
meetings
rather than a
webinar
format, our student leaders would like to pass along some Zoom etiquette tips to help make the most of our time together:
- Use the video option when possible so we are able to see you!
- Stage your video area or background
- Choose a quiet place that is distraction-free
- Check your lighting before the Zoom meeting
- Make sure you can sign into Zoom before the meeting
- Mute yourself when you are not talking
- Don’t eat during the meeting
- Keep in mind the camera is on
We look forward to seeing you next week!
Sincerely,
Josh Doyon
Director of Student Affairs
