Teacher's Advocacy Makes the News
We know Anna Tess (on the right in the photo) is an amazing teacher and leader at Child's Voice. Now the world knows it, too. Anna was featured in a
local newspaper article
that talked about her work with the Foundation for Hearing and Speech Rehabilitation.
Child's Voice staff joined Anna at the Foundation's September Cheers for Beers and Ears event. See photos from that event

Update From Chicago
Our toddlers in Chicago recently painted with fruit, learning words and phrases like “apple,” “orange,” “the green paint,” and “I want more.” Our moms practiced the “Wait Time” strategy, which is a wonderful way to help your toddler take a turn in the conversation. Here is how it works. When you start a conversation with your toddler or ask her a question, pause, give her a few seconds to think about what you said, and then answer. While pausing, lean in and look at your toddler expectantly. This gives her the chance to think about what you asked and come up with an answer. ,
A good rule of thumb is to wait about 10 seconds for your toddler to respond. If she doesn’t say anything, model some language for her to imitate so that she can participate in the conversation. Give it a try at home. Ask your toddler, “Do you want the apple or the banana?” Wait at least 10 seconds before giving her help. If she doesn’t respond, you could repeat the question and then hold the 2 items out for her to point to one. When she points to the apple, you could model “I want an apple” for her to imitate. Then enjoy the snack together!
