Volume 10, Issue 8 | August 2021
Greetings!

August 26, 2021 marked the 25th anniversary of my (finally) moving out of the Big Apple! Those 25 years have surely flown by, and, of course, been filled with many adventures, some planned and some not so much.

When I departed New York on that day, I actually had a wonderful life there. However, I’d been wanting to get out of the Big City for many years, to escape from the concrete jungle, the huge and crowded populace, and the intensity placed on money and one’s profession. Two years earlier I had left the corporate world and embarked on an entirely new career. With my graduation from Fordham University Graduate School of Social Service in the spring of 1996, it seemed prudent to change my hometown before I embarked on employment in my new field, before I started building relationships with clients and associates. I’ve never regretted my decision, even if I’ve not always been enamored with life in the various locales I’ve called home over these past 2½ decades. Of course, we take ourselves wherever we go!

I’m just about settled in my new residence in Prescott, AZ, having lived here about a month. Just like it is difficult to believe that 25 years have passed with me living in the Southwest, it’s hard to believe I’ve been here only one month. On the other hand, I guess with so much happening, the time period actually seems longer!

Who knows where the time goes? Well, I certainly don’t, but the following song immediately came to my mind...

Spirituality
Time Gods
In an interesting blog post, Larry Culliford writes about the Big Bang Theory being a sort of time god, with space, energy, matter—everything—originating instantly. It brought clock time. Another time god, Kairos, symbolized for the Greek people chance, fortune, and meaningful coincidence (i.e., synchronicity, which is how I “came to believe”). Kairos has a different quality from chronos, which is more rhythmical, circular, and seasonal in nature.

Inspiration and Contemplation
An Always Occurring Gift
There are variations on the aforementioned quote, but that's the version I heard originally many years ago at a 12 Step meeting. Attributed to Eleanor Roosevelt is,

Yesterday is history.
Tomorrow is a mystery.
Today is a gift.
That's why it's called the present.

During my research, I found a most clever variation by Albert Einstein:
People Making a Difference
What a Guy!
Okay, so Brittany and Jeffrey were getting married so I’d expect that each would especially look to make their wedding a most joyous occasion—that’s just me!

But when one of Brittany’s best friends (and a bride's maid) who lives in London wasn't going to be able to attend due to COVID-imposed travel restrictions, Jeffrey really went to unique heights to surprise his bride.
The the days of summer are slipping away, with the U.S. Labor Day holiday just around the corner--that means autumn will not be far behind. Still, I need to remember to focus on the present--that's all any of us really has.

Take good care!

Blessings and cyber hugs,

You, Me, and Spirit

I was a devout atheist until 31 years ago when I "came to believe" in a Power greater than myself. Thanks to hearing the novel idea (well, at least it was to me!) that one could choose their own concept of God--and name too (Spirit, The Great Mystery, All That Is, etc.)--and the workings of synchronicity, I embarked on a new way of thinking, a new way of living, a new way of being in the world and with others. It impacted all aspects of my life and relationships.

Since that time of commencing my conscious spiritual journey, I have endeavored to remember The Presence in all that is, all whom I meet, and all that I do -- including working with clients in my own business and in the corporate world. I strive to be of service and to nurture the human spirit in all environments.
