Connecticut's two leading health systems partner to bring new cancer treatment to state
Hartford HealthCare (HHC) and Yale New Haven Health System (YNHHS) today announced a plan to work together to bring proton beam therapy - a highly advanced form of radiation treatment for cancer - to Connecticut.
HHC and YNHHS will seek approval from the state Office of Health Strategy to move forward with the project, which would include construction of a 25,000-square-foot proton therapy center at 932 Northrop Road in Wallingford.
The highly targeted radiological treatment uses protons rather than X-rays to treat cancer, and is only available at a handful of locations in the Northeast - none of them in Connecticut.

Tweed New Haven Airport to Host Public Information Meetings for Airport Master Plan Update
Tweed New Haven Airport (Tweed) is initiating an Airport Master Plan Update and has announced that it will have two public information meetings:
- Wednesday, November 13, 2019 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Nathan Hale School, 480 Townsend Avenue, New Haven
- Thursday, November 14, 2019 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the East Haven Senior Center, 91 Taylor Avenue, East Haven
These meetings will provide background information on the Airport Master Plan Update as well as allow the public to participate in the planning process.
The meetings will begin with a brief presentation about the Master Plan Update goals and objectives, process, schedule, and outline the project's outreach program. Following the presentation, attendees can provide a comment and interface with the project team.
These public information meetings are a way for local residents, airport users, business owners, and any other interested parties to learn about and receive updates on the Tweed Airport Master Plan Update and potential subsequent efforts. This is a key opportunity to interact with the project team, as well as to provide input at the outset of the Master Plan Update.

Duncan Reborn As "Graduate New Haven"
The Hotel Duncan is open again on Chapel Street - no longer as a 92-room single-room occupancy (SRO), but instead as a renamed upscale, college-themed 72-room boutique establishment preserving some of its historic original designs and fixtures.
At a jubilant press conference and ribbon-cutting at 1151 Chapel St. Thursday morning, Mayor Toni Harp, city Acting Economic Development Administrator Michael Piscitelli, and representatives from the Chicago-based investment and development firm AJ Capital Partners joined roughly 100 Downtown and Dwight neighbors and local economic development boosters for the grand opening of what's now called the Graduate New Haven. Plans OK'd For "Westville Music Bowl"
New Haven's vacant tennis stadium is on track to become an outdoor music and comedy venue now that the team behind the College Street Music Hall has won approval - from both the City Plan Commission and, in a twist on history, Westville neighbors.
Those approvals, one formal, one not, came at two different public meetings Wednesday night, one in the community and one in City Hall.
Premier Facilities LLC President Keith Mahler and local attorney Steve Mednick presented plans at the meetings to convert the tennis stadium next to the Yale Bowl at 45 Yale Ave. into the Westville Music Bowl-a new outdoor concert and comedy venue that will host performances between May and September.
The new venture will be run by the nonprofit NHCPA Outdoors LLC, a subsidiary of the New Haven Center for Performing Arts (NHCPA) Inc. which in turn owns the College Street Music Hall downtown. Read More

The Connecticut Brownfields Initiative (CBI): Request for Proposals for the Spring 2020 Municipal Assistance Program (MAP)
The Connecticut Brownfields Initiative (CBI) is pleased to announce the release of a Request for Proposals for the Spring 2020 Municipal Assistance Program (MAP). CBI is soliciting proposals from Connecticut communities, including entities that are eligible for federal and state brownfield assistance programs (towns, municipalities, regional planning and redevelopment agencies, non-profit organizations, Indian tribes). CBI is offering to provide assistance to CT municipalities at no cost to the applicant.
The proposal will be supported through the University of Connecticut course Brownfield Redevelopment, which trains UCONN students on all aspects of investigation, clean up and redevelopment (
https://cbi.engr.uconn.edu/). As part of the course, the students will work in groups and supervised by CBI staff and our partners to conduct activities from the following list:
- Collect data for specific brownfield sites (partial Phase I Environmental site investigation)
- Review previous site investigation reports and prepare summaries and presentations for a particular site
- Develop drafts Scope of Work and budget estimates for Phase II investigation for a particular site
- Prepare an EPA clean up grant proposal or other grant proposals
- Evaluate redevelopment options and priority for sites in a municipality or region
- Conduct community outreach/ prepare educational materials for brownfields
- Create Brownfield inventories for CT communities (detailed lists, GIS maps)
- Prepare submissions for Sustainable CT under Brownfields Category (action 1.1)
