Reminder: Distance Learning Days - December 21 & 22
All KMSD students will be engaged in distance learning on Monday, December 21 and Tuesday, December 22. Chromebooks, along with any materials needed for regular distance instruction, will be sent home with your learner on Friday, December 18. The schedule for these Distance Learning Days will be similar to your learner’s daily, in-person schedule - specials, live class meetings, lunch, etc. Your learner's teacher will be in touch with more information.
Here are some tips to make at-home learning successful -
When your child logs into their computer and joins our Google Meet, they are in a real classroom. We have practiced and are ready for this! Will there be bumps in the road, maybe, but it will be ok.
- Provide an environment that is conducive to learning. Be sure your child has a quiet work space and the materials he/she needs for the day.
- Your child should remain in their work space during instruction with the camera on when possible.
- Keep mics muted unless speaking. Headphones could be worn as well.
- Breakfast should be eaten prior to joining the Google Meet. Students will be allowed to eat a snack during our scheduled snack break.
- Toys, pets, and siblings should not be part of the Google Meet as they are distracting to all.
- Your child should be on time for instruction and follow the classroom schedule.
- Everyone who might appear on camera needs to be dressed appropriately.
- Let your child be the student. Adults should not be sitting next to the child. This can be distracting for all involved in the Google Meet. Distance learning should mirror the classroom. Children are very independent at school. We will follow the same system we have in the classroom when students get “stuck”.
- It is important that children complete their own work. Much of the work we complete is practice. Practice includes errors.
- If your child has a scheduled appointment or illness and is unable to join our Google Meet, please let our office know in advance. Tardies and absences will be reported for official attendance.
THANK YOU for helping to make this work.

Friendly Reminder for Car Line Drop Off
|
|
"My morning is already hectic, I barely make it to work on time, and NOW I have to sit in the car line. Why does it take so long? What is the deal?"
Here are the procedures for the morning car line, and why we do what we do -
Safety is our number 1 priority. Kids should get out on the PASSENGER side. And there should be NO PASSING in the morning, unless a teacher waves you through. This is to keep everyone safe.
We recognize you need to get places after drop off. So a stop to open the door, unbuckle the kids, and a quick hug and kiss are permitted. If you need to do more than this, please pull all the way to the front of the line before letting your kiddo out.
Please remember to treat our staff with kindness. Know that our staff as the safety of everyone as their top priority, and then getting kids in quickly and easily. Please be patient and kind to them. Demonstrate the actions you want your learners and their classmates to use.
Thank you for your understanding!

Cold Weather Gear Drive - Going on NOW!
|
|
Our cold weather gear drive is going well! Please continue to send in any items you would like to donate. Items can be new, or like-new, if they are washed.
We recognize that not all learners in the Greater Milwaukee area are as lucky and would like to extend our #KMKIND community to those who are in need. We are currently collecting any cold-weather clothing items sized for elementary students to distribute to those who need it most.
Your students can put the items under the Christmas tree in the lobby, or give them to the office.
We will make a drop off before Christmas and one in January as well. Thank you for helping us get in the giving spirit!
