Valley Art Association âFounders Art Exhibitâ
The Valley Art Association is celebrating 30 years in the Mansion House Art Center in City Park with an exhibit of examples of the art of some of the Mansion House Art Center's founders. The Valley Art Association has been in existence since 1938, and members, chief among them Clyde Roberts, secured the Mansion House as a home for the organization. Through the efforts of Clyde Roberts and other VAA members at the time, the City was persuaded that VAA would be a suitable tenant for the historic Heyser Mansion, built circa 1842. VAA members renovated the house to adapt it for use as an art center and gallery, and the doors opened in August, 1991. Artists whose work is shown are Clyde Roberts, Ronda Albright, Cindy Downs, Ruth Durbin, Lucy Ecker, Virginia Hair, Marjorie Tressler, and Marguerite Cyr.
(Other founding members whose work is not on view include June Doub Barnes, Robert Beckett, Mary Carrill, Eleanor Criswell, Frank Fay, Jack Goembel, Mary Lou Goembel, Grant Haines, Betty Heck, Lonnie Jenkins, Jean Little, Zelma Lushbaugh, Audrey Mentzer, H. Margaret Moore, and Brigid Whitman.)
The exhibit also includes a brief history of the Mansion House, and Heyser family.
The Valley Art Association Art Exhibit entitled âFounders Art Exhibitâ, at the Mansion House Art Center & Gallery, 480 Highland Ave., Hagerstown, MD opens Friday August 6, 2021 and closes Sunday August 29, 2021. The Mansion House is open to the public on Fridays & Saturdays 11am-4pm and Sundays 1-5pm. Admission is FREE.

-
