IMA COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Update - #61

On May 8, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot announced the Protecting Chicago framework that the City will be using to guide Chicago’s reopening process amid COVID-19. The City is soliciting public input to gauge sentiment on shelter-in-place and ensure the reopening is phased in a way that eases concerns that residents may have. To provide feedback, Chicago residents can visit  www.chicago.gov/coronavirus/reopeningsurvey  to complete a short survey. 

The Governor stated today that he believes the Illinois General Assembly should convene before the end of May to put Illinois' financial and economic house back together.

Daily COVID-19 Results
 
Governor JB Pritzker held his daily press conference and announced:
 
  1. There are 4,014 new cases of coronavirus in Illinois.
  2. There are a total of 3,601 deaths related to coronavirus in Illinois, including 144 additional deaths announced today.
  3. A total of 83,021 cases have been confirmed in at least 98 of the 102 counties. These numbers include many individuals who have already recovered.
  4. There have been 471,691 individuals tested for coronavirus in Illinois.

Press Conference Key Updates

  • The Governor called for the Illinois Legislature to convene expeditiously and begin working to put Illinois' financial and economic house back together. Governor Pritzker also called for the General Assembly to pass a comprehensive plan to support families, small businesses and small towns; including rent and mortgage assistance for small businesses, tax credits for small business job recovery, and financial support for small towns and villages.
  • The Governor announced a program to provide $25 million in DCEO grants to help local governments jump start public infrastructure projects for the summer construction season. This is part of a $50 million program through Rebuild Illinois that the Governor is expediting. Starting today, local governments with shovel ready projects can apply.
  • The Governor reminded listeners that DCEO is still offering support through the Emergency Small Business Loans Program and Downstate Small Business Stabilization Fund. More information on these programs can be found here.

Regional Metrics Updates

Governor Pritzker's Restore Illinois plan uses health metrics and data to determine 5 phases of reopening the state. The Illinois Department of Public Health began publicly updating their data so that the four regions can see where they stand with regard to moving to the next phase on May 28.
