Transportation
On Thursday, Feb. 27 various SRPC staff attended the training webinar for MetroQuest, an online survey tool recently purchased by the NH Department of Transportation (NHDOT). NHDOT's account includes access for each regional planning commission (RPC) to utilize the tool for public outreach and engagement efforts. MetroQuest will allow RPCs to create interactive, visual surveys that make it easy for people to share their input online, whether on a phone, tablet, or computer.

Strafford Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) staffers look forward to using this engagement tool in its outreach efforts for the ongoing update to the Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP), among other projects.

For more information on Strafford MPO's outreach and engagement activities contact Shayna Sylvia, communications and outreach planner, at 603-994-3500.

Economic Development
The Quarterly SRPC/Strafford Economic Development District (EDD) meeting was held on Thursday, Feb. 27. The meeting topic, the economics of recycling, was discussed through three different lenses by presenters Senator David Watters; Rollinsford Town Administrator Caroline Kendall and Transfer Station Manager Ed Walsh; and Sustainability Manager at Coca-Cola Beverages Northeast and NH The Beautiful board member, Ray Dube.

Senator Watters offered insight into the report from the Committee to Study Recycling Streams and Solid Waste Management in New Hampshire. He touched on bills that are currently in session as a result of the report, and key findings in relevance to NH communities.

Caroline and Ed addressed how Rollinsford has adjusted its recycling processes in response to the recycling market, reverting from a single stream system back into a separated model. They also presented on the town's internal processes for recycling and how approaching recycling regionally could help smaller towns see more benefits and less costs from recyclables.

Ray Dube closed out the presentation talking about his role in education as sustainability manger of Coca Cola, and his role as a board member of NH the Beautiful(NHTB). He shared that NHTB supports educational efforts such as trash on the lawn activities where kids sort trash from their school to see what can be composted and recycled, and also provides grants and pricing deals for recycling equipment and signage.
