Shell Invests in the Whale Development in the Gulf of Mexico

Shell.com, July 26, 2021: Whale will be the second Shell-operated deep-water development in the Gulf of Mexico to employ a simplified, cost-efficient host design. With this development approach, Shell anticipates an internal rate of return estimated to be greater than 25%. Our Whale development will feature energy-efficient gas turbines and compression systems. This development will be the latest addition to our Gulf of Mexico portfolio where our production is among the lowest greenhouse gas (GHG) intensity in the world for producing oil. Read more...
ExxonMobil Announces Oil Discovery at Whiptail, Offshore Guyana

Corporate.exxonmobil.com, July 28, 2021: ExxonMobil today said it made a discovery at Whiptail in the Stabroek Block offshore Guyana. The Whiptail-1 well encountered 246 feet (75 meters) of net pay in high quality oil bearing sandstone reservoirs. Drilling is also ongoing at the Whiptail-2 well, which has encountered 167 feet (51 meters) of net pay in high quality oil bearing sandstone reservoirs. Drilling continues at both wells to test deeper targets, and results will be evaluated for future development. Read more...

Arctic LNG-2 to Attract Loans Worth 9.2bn Euros

Russiabusinesstoday.com, July 28, 2021: For the Arctic LNG-2 project, NOVATEK will attract loans worth more than 9.2 billion euros, the company reported in its financial statements, Russian media writes. The “Arctic LNG-2” company signed a deal back in April 2021, with a syndicate of Russian banks. Those banks are VEB, Sberbank, Gazprombank, and Otkritie Bank, obliging to provide a credit line of 3.11 billion euros for 15 years. Read more...
McDermott Wins Baltic Chemical Project

Rigzone.com, July 26, 2021: Heat Transfer Technologies DMCC (HTT) has awarded McDermott International Ltd. an engineering and procurement contract for a licensed modular spent caustic unit for the world’s largest polyethylene (PE) integration project, McDermott reported last week. Baltic Chemical Plant LLC, a unit of RusGazDobycha, owns the Gas Chemical Complex (GCC) project near Russia’s shores in the Gulf of Finland, McDermott noted in a written statement emailed to Rigzone. Rosatom Plans to Build First Wind Power Plant Abroad by 2024

Interfax.com, July 29, 2021: Rosatom state atomic energy corporation expects to build its first wind-farm power plant abroad by 2024, CEO Alexei Likhachev said in a statement posted on the state company's website. Likhachev recalled that Rosatom's portfolio of wind-farm projects is 1.2 GW in Russia until 2024, and he said that the state company plans to bring domestic orders for wind power plants up to 3 GW to 4 GW going forward. OMV CEO Says First Gas to Be Pumped via Nord Stream 2 in 2021

1prime.biz, July 28, 2021: Gas pumping through Russia’s Nord Stream 2 pipeline may start as early as in 2021, Rainer Seele, CEO of Austria’s OMV, said in a news conference on Wednesday. “The CEO (of Nord Stream 2 AG) said that construction works will be finished at the end of August. That is why we believe that gas may be pumped this year,” he said. Earlier in July, Nord Stream 2 AG CEO Matthias Warnig said that the company planned to finish pipe laying at the end of August. The project is 98% finished, and construction of the first thread has been concluded. Tests and certification of the pipeline will take two to three months, and the work for the first thread has started. Read more...

Russia to Build First LNG-powered Icebreakers for Arctic Sea Route

Reuters.com, July 23, 2021: Russia plans to build its first batch of icebreakers that are powered by liquified natural gas, a top official said on Friday, returning to an idea that was put on hold. Russia has the world's only fleet of nuclear-powered icebreakers. It is building up that fleet, hoping to develop the Northern Sea Route across its northern flank into an international shipping lane as climate change melts the ice. Read more...
