Through a discussion of Kobayashi's writings on Vincent van Gogh, this presentation addresses the role of interiority within his reactionary take on the history of modernism, and the significance of this position within the context of raging debates on the function of artistic production in the postwar period.

JET PROGRAMME 2020
Career days and Information Sessions at UBC

Recruitment for the 2020 Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme is currently underway. This past summer there were 49 participants from British Columbia, including thirteen former students from the University of British Columbia. The Japan Exchange and Teaching Programme seeks to enhance internationalisation in Japan by promoting mutual understanding between the people of Japan and those of other nations. The Programme aims to enhance foreign language education, and promote international exchange at the local level through the fostering of ties between Japanese youth and foreign youth alike.

Mitacs-JSPS Summer Program
*Canadians and PR only


Mitacs is now accepting applications for the  Mitacs-JSPS Summer Program, which supports researchers in Canada to undertake 10-week research projects in Japan in Summer 2020. O ffered in partnership with the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) provides opportunities for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in Canada to pursue collaborative research in Japan, allowing them to advance their own research while promoting scientific progress in both Japan and Canada. The program is open to graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in all disciplines at Canadian academic institutions. The deadline to apply for the Mitacs-JSPS Summer Program is November 27, 2019.
