School Starts Next Week
The official first day of school will take place next Wednesday, Aug. 18 for Lake Travis Independent School District (LTISD) students. Expect traffic in the area to pick back up by then, and please keep an eye out in school zones as speed limits will be reduced near schools before and after classes. While this is another unusual beginning to the school year with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, LTISD continues to offer valuable resources on their website for keeping their students, parents and staff safe during this time. Memorial Applications Due
The deadline to submit applications for veteran names to be engraved on the Spirit of Freedom monument in Heritage Park is extended to this coming Monday, August 16, 2021. That will be the final day to submit your application for this year. Collectively, there are more than 1,100 past or present Lakeway residents included on the monument who served in the armed forces. The special monument at Heritage Park currently honors those veterans who served in World War II, along with the Korean and Vietnam wars. Application forms are available at the Heritage Center, City Hall and the Lakeway Activity Center. If you or a family member are interested in applying to have a name added to the monument, please contact the Heritage Center by emailing history@lakeway-tx.gov or calling (512) 608-9533.
COVID-19 Update
Travis County remains in Stage 5 of the Austin Public Health risk-based guidelines due to a continued increase in COVID-19 related hospitalizations, and limited ICU availability. The guidelines recommend all individuals, whether vaccinated or not vaccinated, wear a proper face covering when engaging with others not from your household. The guidelines also recommend those not vaccinated avoid gatherings and activities unless essential. Travis County also posted two additional Orders this week relating to the required use of face coverings in schools and county facilities (the Orders do not apply to local city facilities).

Travis County continues to offer multiple COVID-19 vaccine distribution pop-up events throughout the weekend. No appointments are necessary. CLICK HERE for location details, and also for more on the Stage 5 restrictions and county orders now in place.
