Dear Daves Avenue Families,
Our Cool Cats are bubbling with anticipation for the Halloween parade tomorrow morning. Parents, please consider joining us at 8:30 A.M. to watch our students proudly parade around the perimeter of the blacktop and through the hallways (back by popular demand)! After every event on campus, I always reflect with staff on how to make improvements for future events. This year, a sound system with a functioning microphone and music will accompany our Cool Cats!
Parents can view the parade from several areas:
- The cement in front of the two story building
- The picnic tables under the outdoor overhang
- The cement in front of the Multi-Purpose Building
- On either of the grassy knolls located between our main buildings
Additionally, here are a few reminders
- Please remember that costumes should be age appropriate and culturally sensitive. This will help to avoid inadvertently mimicking any individual or group of people.
- Avoid scary costumes that could frighten young children. No weapons, blood, or scary masks. If a costume is found to be inappropriate, your child will be asked to change out of their costume.
- Hair Dye and/or spray should be administered at home and not brought to school.
- Unattached parts of costumes can get lost easily at school, so you may want to leave them at home.
- Our goal is to promote Halloween in a fun, safe, and respectful manner. Your support is appreciated!
A huge thank you to our Safe Routes to School parent leader, Meaghen Foley Spencer and parent volunteers who provided a Pedestrian safety lesson this morning for all of our TK and Kindergarten students. Continuing education for our most prized possessions combined with parental support remains a priority at Daves Avenue.
Have a PAWSitively wonderful
Halloween

GREEN TEAM AND OUR FIRST TRASH FREE TUESDAY OF 2019!
Congratulations to our students! Our first TFT (Trash Free Tuesday) was a success. A big
THANK YOU
to our FunVisor team, our custodial and kitchen crew, Mrs. Mittleman and our Avenue team for their help promoting and running the event.
169 students made their best attempt at a trash free lunch, which has to be some kind of record! And congratulations to our lucky raffle winners for packing a trash free lunch.
|
|
There will be more random Tuesday raffles with fun prizes to come. Parents, please help your children bring trash free lunches every Tuesday (or even better, every day!).
As a reminder, trash free means:
- reusable food containers, instead of Ziploc bags
- washable utensils, instead of plastic forks and spoons
- cloth napkins, instead of paper towels
- a thermos or reusable water bottle, instead of plastic water bottles and juice pouches
This TFT was our first attempt at a couple new things in trash sorting over previous years. We included poster-boards around the MPR and attached them to the Trash, Recycling and Composting bins, describing items placed in each, and talked a little about that before lunch. This will be a work in progress towards education and improvement towards
properly disposing of trash throughout the year.

Starting Tomorrow...on Halloween!
It's like having a Bookstore Land inside OUR Daves Library
HOURS
October 31: 8am - 4pm
November 1 and All Conference Week: 8am - 6pm
*November 6: 8am - 9pm (extended hours for late shoppers!)
From Mrs. G...
I will be there whenever the fair is open, because the BEST part of it (as your librarian) is getting to visit with EVERYONE! Please come tell me about your reader, especially at a less busy time (usually after 1 pm), and
I will help you find books for them!
Do I care if they’re library books or book fair books?? Not at all! Hearing from readers (and their parents) is my favorite part of the fair. It's a visiting and listening opportunity!
25% of proceeds comes back to the library - that funds almost all of our new book purchases year after year!
Cash, Check and Credit Card
are accepted

See you at the fair!

- The new Wimpy Kid (Wrecking Ball) will be at the fair at 8 am Tuesday 11/5. For pre-orders, I will have the books tagged to hand off before the first bell!
- I will also take pre-orders for the new Dog Man (Fetch 22), which will be delivered on release day, Tuesday 12/10.

DAVES AVENUE CHEETAHS RUNNING CLUB

The Daves Avenue Cheetahs want to keep the tradition going of continually producing great teams for Fisher Middle School, but we are very thin on 5th Grade Girls who would form the 2020 6th Grade Girls. To that end, for the rest of the school year,
we will prioritize 5th Grade girls over any other group to make up the numbers.
If your 5th Grade athletically inclined daughter would like to be part of this incredible program, please register on the waitlist
