GET OUT AND PLAY FUNDRAISER
(letter from 15 year old Aiden Satterthwaite written October 2020)
My name is Aiden Satterthwaite, a 15-year-old student at W.L. Seaton Secondary School. On October 12th, 2020 I will be challenging myself to ride my unicycle 41 km. following my school bus route to school. I am doing this to create awareness to get out and play today and to raise money for future park/playground development in my community.
In the days of snap chat, fortnite and zoom classrooms, I want everyone to remember how important it is to get out and play today. To exercise not only your body but also your mind.
I live in a small subdivision called Valley of the Sun along Westside Rd. near Fintry Provincial Park. The subdivisions out here were developed without any green spaces. It has been my dream as a small boy to see a playground built. I would love to see that happen.
All the money I raise will be held in trust by the North Westside Communities Association (NWCA). The NWCA Parks Committee is currently looking at options for new park development. I know I will be gone off to college long before any park is built out here. I am doing this fundraiser so the little kids growing up here will be able to enjoy a dream I have long had.
I will be following my school bus route to W.L. Seaton Secondary School. I will start at Udell Rd. and ride along Westside Rd. to Okanagan Hwy. 97 to Old Kamloops Rd. then onto 43rd Ave. to 27th Street to W.L. Seaton Secondary School. If I can complete my challenge, I estimate it will take 5 to 7 hours. I will be led and followed by two experienced bicyclists to ensure I have a safe ride.
I encourage you to get out and play today, whatever your age is, please support me in my challenge.
Thank you,
Aiden Satterthwaite
