Chargers Football Advances in 1A Football Playoffs

#8 Arete Prep is moving on in the 1A football playoffs after defeating #9 Anthem Prep 34-22 on Friday night. It was a back and forth game, with the Chargers leading 14-8 at the half and only taking charge when Matthew McClelland ran it in from 24 yards with just over 3 minutes left to make it a two score game. The Eagles defense held McClelland in check for the most part, but he still finished with 281 yards passing and added 58 rushing. McClelland proved he doesn't only get it done on the offensive side of the ball, by setting a STATE RECORD with 5 defensive interceptions, including a few in clutch situations. The Charger defense played their usual team ball, coming up with multiple red zone, fourth down stops. Jacob Smedegaard had a big game at MLB, while Jack Spano and Logan Beach led the charge up front.

Sophomore Jack Bellomy was the star on offense, setting the tone by returning the opening kick 78 yards for a touchdown. Bellomy racked up 121 yards on 15 carries and had 151 receiving on 6 catches. He finished with 3 total TD's and a 2 point conversion.

Next up for the Chargers is a trip to Williams, AZ next Friday 11/1, where they will take on the #1 Vikings. Williams has held the #1 spot in the 1A rankings all season with their only loss coming to Pahranagat Valley (Alamo NV).

The Charger bus will leave campus at 11:30am Friday.
