Message from the CEO
Dr Louise Schaper
A tribute to nurses and midwives: In International Year of the Nurse and the Midwife, today we are celebrating the anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth on 12 May 1820. Nurses and midwives play a vital role on the frontline in health services and together the professions represent the single largest health workforce in Australia. The Institute’s community of practice AIDH – Nursing. Midwifery leads nursing and midwifery informatics nationally and welcomes all registered nurses and midwives as members. Today’s Digital Health Live webinar hosted by the South Australia branch pays tribute to the innovation, creativity – and pragmatism – shown by nursing specialists using digital health, telehealth and health informatics in this new era of person-centred healthcare.

And thank you to the digital health community : Last week, in association with the Australian Healthcare and Hospitals Association, we provided the Government with feedback for use in developing the enabling legislation for the COVID-19 tracer app. As advocates for information privacy and the data rights of consumers, the Institute believes the principle of ‘first do no harm’ should be applied to the implementation of health technology. Thank you to the group of Institute members who are expert in cybersecurity and privacy for leading the project and to more than 135 contributors who took part in our consultation process to develop the final document  Principles for the COVID-19 Contact Tracing App (pdf).

News
Do no harm - principles for contact-tracing app: Thank you to everyone who provided their valuable input and feedback last week into developing principles around privacy and safety for the Government's contact-tracing app COVIDSafe. AIDH in association with the Australian Healthcare and Hospitals Association (AHHA) have developed 10 principles for the Australian Government to consider in its enabling legislation. The inclusion of the recommended principles would increase the likelihood of more widespread adoption of the app, which is desirable for rapid contact tracing. The principles cover communication and design, data collection “scope creep”, data security, opt-in and end dates, anonymity, usage rights, legal protection and evaluation.

The survey is part of a research study which aims to develop an evidence-based, standardised and best practice security framework dedicated to hospital BYOD. The framework will aid in improving privacy and confidentially of patient data, as well as personal data of hospital employees in an efficient manner.
