President's Message
APRIL - JUNE 2020

Happy Summer to one and all! We in the desert of Coachella Valley hopefully have had the air conditioning serviced for a comfortable run of summer heat. No big deal!!
The issues of the COVID-19 virus has upped our game as our Executive Director and staff have had to maintain normal activities and then to shelter in place which brought many inter actions to a halt. We have learned to manage business through phone and ZOOM conversations. And of course, the ever present mask. The world keeps turning and we remain vigilant to keep the situation under control.
Our goal is to show the recovering clients that we can overcome and that this too, shall pass. Our staff is the BEST and we are so thankful for each and every one of them.
In the short future the Board of Directors are working on a few ideas to assure that a “fun”d-raising project will come to fruition and we will keep all of our great support team in the loop on plans.
We thank you for your support and pray for comfort and peace for our world.

May God bless us all.
Regards,
Trish Klimkiewicz

Soroptimist House of Hope
Executive Director's Message
APRIL - JUNE 2020

This second quarter of 2020 has gone by so quickly. We have all been vigilant in following the guidelines of CDC and making sure our clients and staff were safe, while maintaining our quality of service. During this period, Hope’s Horizons Recovery Residence has been re-certified by CCAPP (California Consortium of Addiction Programs and Professionals) for another year. We also received our new contract from Riverside University Health Systems Behavioral Health for fiscal year 2020/2021. There have not been any activities outside of the house due to the current pandemic. During this time, we are doing most things on Zoom or platforms of the like. It’s funny how things of this world change and how much we count on technology to get us through the day. Lately, it is through these platforms we visit with our family, conduct business, attend school and meetings, and even interview for employment. Times have changed, but for us at Soroptimist House of Hope our mission stays the same. We will continue to help women recover, and for us that includes a personal approach. In these times of uncertainty, we will be the light, and through the hurt, pain and loss, we will comfort each other. In our intervening, we will triumph. This quarter has had some ups and downs for our staff. Many have suffered through COVID-19 and one of them has lost her mother. We decided to temporarily suspend new referrals to the residential treatment program so that our staff could get well, and we can revamp where needed. We expect to resume services by the end of July. Hope is what keeps us all doing what we do!

“Where there’s hope, there’s life. It fills us with fresh courage and makes us strong again.” Anne Frank

Peace and Good Health to You,

OMA'S KITCHEN

Hope's Horizons had their kitchen remodeled in June 2019. Upon Oma Gray's Retirement in January 2020, the kitchen was dedicated to Oma as part of her 20+ year legacy serving SHOH. The Banning kitchen was a huge part of her recovery and she spent many years there teaching clients how to cook and how to keep it clean. She is honored to be an integral part of SHOH, past, present and future.
Through all the trials and tribulations this period, Hope's Horizons was able to get their fabulous new mailbox installed. Thanks to everyone who helped make this happen. They are so grateful.

Looking Back
Part Five
By Dot Reed, SHOH Past President

Back again to 2012 when we were scrambling to find ways to cut our expenses another wonderful person stepped up. Margaret Henderson volunteered to process the payroll for SHOH. She is still providing this very important service for us with no charge. We are very thankful to Margaret for saving thousands of dollars for SHOH.
There are many ways to support SHOH. Participation in our fundraisers, in kind donations of service, automatic monthly donations on our website (www.recoveryhouseofhope.org) or we are always happy to receive your check.
Thanks to all of our supporters,
Dot Reed

SOROPTIMIST HOUSE OF HOPE, INC.
COVID-19 STATEMENT
March 17, 2020

Soroptimist House of Hope (SHOH) is committed to ensuring the health and safety of our clients, staff and the community in response to the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic. Due to the critical and potentially life-saving nature of our mission to help women with substance use disorders, we will continue to conduct our residential treatment programs at our Treatment Center in Desert Hot Springs and our Transitional Recovery Residence in Banning.

SHOH is following all guidance provided by the Centers of Disease Control, California Department of Health Care Services, and Riverside University Health Center (County of Riverside Departments of Behavioral and Public Health) in maintaining the health and safety of our clients, staff, and the community. Our clients and staff have been directed to practice social distancing techniques whenever possible as well as enhanced personal hygiene and self-care. Frequent and thorough cleaning procedures have been implemented at our facilities. We are screening all staff and clients for symptoms of COVID-19 on a daily basis, limiting group activities within the Treatment Center and Transitional Recovery Residence, suspending all off-site 12-Step meetings, volunteer, and social activities, prohibiting non-essential visitors, and facilitating immediate medical care for anyone displaying symptoms.

We are confident that these practices will keep our clients and staff healthy while we provide our valuable services to women in need.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me by email at houseohope2@aol.com or by phone at 951-849-9491.

Please take care and stay safe. Thank you for your support.

CLIENT COMMENTS
Thank you so much for the wo0nderful opportunity of coming to the House of Hope. I arrived broken, lost and tired of living the drug life. I can honestly say I will treasure this experience for the rest of my life. Now I’m leaving which is such a blessing. I am more confident, sure of myself and ready to battle anything that comes my way. I am ready to enjoy my children and live a happy, sober life. Thanks to the amazing staff at House of Hope and all the wonderful tools they have given me to succeed in life. So I want to thank you all for your wonderful work, time and energy you all put into the House of Hope.
Love Always, D.D.

Thank you for providing me a safe place to complete my recovery from my alcoholism. House of Hope is a miracle. It really was nice to have the stability during my recovery. During my stay at House of Hope, I was able to attend 3 House Showers and appreciate how engaging and what a positive example you have set. I look forward to being a part of a group/organization that provides such incredible support for such a worthy cause.
Thank you, S.

Thank you! Let me just say it has been one great journey here at the House of Hope in Desert Hot Springs. I love it how the program works. The staff and counselors are so kind and respectful! I am so very happy. I am blessed to have been handpicked by my Higher Power to get a chance to experience this beautiful home! My journey here has made me look at my life in a whole new way and I have the tools to help me on my next step in life. I can’t thank you ladies enough!! I love you all and thank you.
Love, L.L.

My name is M. and I am an alcoholic. I knew from the first day that the House of Hope was special. I was welcomed at the door with hugs by the residents and staff. I have learned so much from the staff at House of Hope for my recovery (12 Step program and for social skills and life skills). I came into the House of Hope broken, unable to identify anything good about myself. With the constant love and care, communication and reminders from staff, I can hold my head up. I love myself. I am a grateful recovering alcoholic. I am strong. I am a woman of worth and today I can believe I am beautiful and deserve the happiness I worked hard for with the support of my counselor Cindi and Director Lupe and the rest of the staff. They helped me find my humor and my beauty. I can’t say enough about the staff at House of Hope. I extend my gratitude to the Soroptimist women who do wonderful things we Palm Desert Soroptimist when they visited the3 House of Hope and showered us women with Mary Kay and beading and a beautiful lunch. I pray that all the Soroptimist women are doing well during this pandemic. I have finished residential treatment as of 5-1-20 and on my way to Hop’s Horizons in Banning. Thank you for all your hard work.
Love Always,
M. R.
