Happy Foster Family Month 2021
Greetings!
Fostering isn’t for the timid. Opening your heart and home to a child who needs a safe place to be while they and their family heal and become strong is a heart-risk. It requires you to go all-in in life, instead of just going through the motions. Take the step, and you discover how big your brave is.
FPSS Society honours and celebrates the bravery all foster parents show through the work they do every day.

Some people think of fostering as taking care of someone else’s children. It’s so much more. Fostering requires us to stop thinking of the children and parents we work with as strangers and see them as equal members of our community. It’s helping a family near you that is going through a difficult time because you can. Sharing all that you have, your family, time, strength, and wisdom with those who need it most. Foster parents do this day by day, hour by hour. The Board and staff of FPSS see this. We see you.

And we say Thank You.

Reach out to a caregiver you know. Share what brought you to fostering, what gets you through the hard days, and how it feels to see a first tentative smile from a child who lost theirs for a time. Support them on their journey as only another foster parent can. And let them support you. You will both be stronger for it. On a tough day, when you forget how amazing your are, give us a call and let us remind you!

FPSS would like to acknowledge our caregivers for loving and supporting the children in their home and for meeting the ever-shifting demands of caregiving under these difficult circumstances. Thank you for treating children and youth, and their parents with respect, kindness, and patience. Thank you for being brave enough to help build your community and all its members into something stronger and more compassionate.
There are so many ways to be brave in this world. Sometimes bravery involves laying down your life for something bigger than yourself, or for someone else. Sometimes it involves giving up everything you have ever known or everyone you have ever loved for the sake of something greater. But sometimes, it doesn’t. sometimes is it nothing more than gritting your teeth through pain, and the work of every day, the slow walk toward a better life.

We would like to acknowledge and thank the Coast Salish, Nuu-chah-nulth, and Kwakwaka’wakw ancestors and families who graciously allow us to live, work and play on their traditional, and ancestral land. We honour our relationships with all Indigenous people.
